Resident Evil might be a survival horror series about the undead and mutated monsters, but that hasn't stopped its fans from shipping their favourite characters together. That of course includes Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, the stars of Resident Evil 2, affectionately dubbed 'Cleon'. And of course, Claire's actor Stephanie Panisello from Resi2 Remake, Infinite Darkness, and Death Island knows all about your love for the two.

“I don’t want to break any hearts, but I think people can believe in this lovely pairing of Leon and Claire,” Penisello tells TheGamer. “However, I personally think that when Leon decides to find his worth, he’ll stop going after women that don’t want him.

"No bad mouthing on Leon, though, he totally kicks butt, but when it comes to the ladies, it’s questionable. I will say that I gave a little special moment in Infinite Darkness where Claire lands on top of Leon. That was a personal choice. We did it just for fun for everybody, just to keep that hope alive.”

Cleon is such a popular coupling from fans that there's an entire Wiki page dedicated to every slither of evidence for the two's more romantic relationship. It starts with the original 1998 Resident Evil 2 before Panisello took on the role, noting that they're "happy to meet each other in the RPD" and "looked at each other for a moment after [Claire] got into the train". Maybe they're just good friends.

It continues with Darkside Chronicles, particularly Memories of a Lost City (the retelling of Resi2). It mentions that "Leon soothed Claire about still having survivors in the city" and that "their eyes meet with sadness" when the two realise Annette is dying. Things really blew up when Resi2 Remake launched in 2019, bringing Cleon to a whole new generation of fans.

Similar touches are noted, like the two smiling at each other or asking if the other is okay. It's a remake, so a lot of it's gonna be the same, but it gave Cleon new life. Where it heats up is Infinite Darkness. The page notes that "Leon pulls Claire to him, with Claire landing on top of him", and that "Leon thought Claire wanted to go and get dinner". The former was Panisello's idea, but it appears more like Leon reading too much into something that's not there. Sorry Cleon fans.

Regardless, you'll find plenty of fan fiction and art depicting the two as more than friends, but it's unlikely we'll see that blossom in the games, movies, or shows. Claire's too busy saving the world and Leon's too busy pining after women who clearly don't feel the same way.
