Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has an all-star cast made up of Daredevil's Charlie Cox, Andy Serkis of Lord of the Rings fame, and Jennifer English, best known among gamers as the actress behind Baldur's Gate 3's Shadowheart. That cast also includes the industry's hottest acting property right now Ben Starr, and there's an outfit for his character in Expedition 33 heavily inspired by the game that propelled Starr into mainstream video game fame.

Starr plays Verso in Clair Obscur, one of many prominent roles he has landed in video games since playing the lead in Final Fantasy 16. Starr will forever be connected to the series he loves most after playing Clive Rosfield in FF16, as is demonstrated by one of the outfits you can unlock for Verso in Clair Obscur.

Even though Final Fantasy 16 and Clair Obscur aren't made by the same studio, Sandfall Interactive managed to sneak the Clive homage in there. While they might not have been the first to discover the outfit or make the connection, BltzZ has not only shared a look at Verso in his Clive thread on Twitter, but they have also detailed where exactly you need to go on The Continent if you want to find it.

Clive Is Kind Of In Clair Obscur

Not Just The Guy Who Plays Him, But His Clothes Too

The area you need to head to if you want to (kind of) become Clive in Clair can be accessed via Monoco Station. Through there is a dungeon dubbed Frozen Hearts, and in that dungeon is an outfit called the Pelerin outfit that is almost identical to the red and black default gear Clive wears in Final Fantasy 16.

BltzZ doesn't mention how grueling an area Frozen Hearts is. Finding that Clive outfit won't be a walk in the park, nor should it be. Go prepared.

While Starr's strongest connection to Final Fantasy is through Clive, it's also very well known by his fans that he loves Final Fantasy 8, and Sandfall has snuck a couple of references to that game into Clair Obscur too. Verso lets players know he still likes trains, which is a reference to Final Fantasy 8's Selphie, and you can also find two gestrals playing a game called Double Dyad, presumably a simplified version of Final Fantasy 8's Triple Triad.

Clair Obscur has been taking the gaming world by storm and is currently the highest-rated game of 2025. There's now an even stronger chance that translates to Sandfall's first game being a Game of the Year contender, as on Friday, Rockstar confirmed GTA 6 won't be here for at least another year.
