Hot Off The Heels Of Performance Worries, Borderlands 4 Has Now Managed To Crash During A Promo Video

Borderlands 4 is set to launch later this week, and while we haven't had any reviews drop for the title just yet, it's being described in recent previews as more of Borderlands 2 and far less of Borderlands 3. That's pretty good news for those that haven't enjoyed the direction of the series so far, but one big worry that keeps cropping up is how the game's going to perform.
We've already had Randy Pitchford saying the game will be "unplayable" on PCs that fall below the game's minimum specs, and there are also reports of the game running horrendously on Nintendo Switch 2. It sounds like it's going to be a graphical powerhouse, and coupled that with the fact that the game's running in Unreal Engine 5, there are concerns that Borderlands 4 is another PC disaster waiting to happen.
Borderlands 4 Crashes In Promo Video With Conan O'Brien
Unfortunately, a new promo video hasn't done much to calm those fears. In a new episode of Clueless Gamer, which features Conan O'Brien playing video games very badly, Borderlands 4 managed to fully crash on the talk show host during the video, booting him back to his Steam library. You can see the moment it happens at the four-minute mark.
It was later claimed that the crash was due to some background tinkering while Conan was playing, though the pop-up that appears states that "the game has crashed more than once recently", so something isn't adding up. It's possible this may have been a scripted crash to make Conan seem like a silly old man that plays games so bad they break, and this was the most successful take, or Borderlands 4 is just prone to crashing.
Either way, it's not a great look to be joking about your game crashing just a couple of days before release. If it's scripted, I'm not sure showcasing your game as being potentially prone to crashing does it much good, especially when there are already fears over its performance. We'll know for sure when those reviews drop and we can play the game for ourselves, but to be safe, it might be best to brace yourself for another slightly botched PC release.
