Black Myth: Wukong will finally be here on August 20, four years on from the initial reveal of what will be the first triple-A title from a Chinese studio to get a worldwide release. Even though every new look at the game has generated interest and excitement, Wukong's long journey has been troubled, from accusations of in-studio sexism in 2023 to the reveal that physical copies of the game will be a code in a box. Despite all that, pre-orders for Black Myth: Wukong are live, and there are quite a few editions to choose from.

Four editions of Black Myth: Wukong will be released in total, all four launching on PC and just the standard and digital deluxe editions on PS5. There will be an Xbox release, but Wukong studio Heishenhua has quietly revealed that won't come until a later date. The same appears to apply to physical versions of the standard copy of the game as you can only get physical copies by buying either the deluxe or collector's editions.

If you're not bothered about owning a physical copy of Black Myth: Wukong - and that really plays into your favor for various reasons - you can grab the standard edition on either PC or PS5. A $60 game, which is somewhat surprising considering the $70 industry standard for games of this quality, and it comes with a pre-order bonus - Trailblazer's Scarlet Gourd. Heishenhua notes that the bonus can be obtained through in-game progression, so it won't be unobtainable if you don't pre-order the game.

Moving on up the Wukong ladder, we arrive at the editions that are currently only available on PC. First up is the cheaper of the two physical versions, the deluxe edition. Even though it's cheaper, it's still pretty pricey, but you get a lot of physical stuff along with a copy of the game for the $169 price tag. A bronze headband that's 1:1 scale so, in theory, will fit on your head, and a scroll with Chaos at the Peach banquet printed on it as well as everything else detailed below.

Last but most definitely not least is the main event - the collector's edition. Those of you who hunt out collector's editions for games you like the look of will know that more often than not, they don't come cheap. If you want the most expensive version of Black Myth: Wukong available, it's going to cost you $400. For that lofty price you get an alternative silk scroll to the one included with the deluxe edition, everything other than the headband that comes with the $169 edition of the game, and the thing that always drives up the price of a collector's edition, a very limited edition statue.

The statue is 40cm tall and has been named Confront Destiny, presumably because the protagonist's name hasn't been revealed yet, as far as I'm aware. If you're certain you're going to love this game, and you've got the money to do so, then the collector's edition may well be for you.

Black Myth: Wukong will be released on PS5 and PC on August 20, 2024, with an Xbox launch coming at a later date. Do note when the physical editions are due to launch on the sites you buy them from as in some cases they aren't scheduled to ship until after the game's release date.

Even though Black Myth: Wukong's release date is technically August 20, you'll be able to start playing on August 19 in some parts of the world since the game will launch at the same time everywhere. On the East Coast of the US, for example, the game will be released at 10 pm EST on August 19.

No, Black Myth: Wukong is a current-gen-only release and will not be available on last-gen consoles.
