In boxing, an uppercut punch deals a world of hurt to an opponent's chin, always in hopes of it turning out a knockout. The physics capabilities of the combat in games allow this fighting technique to be taken to exaggerated lengths to enhance some of the fun you can have with it as you approach enemies.

The other factors for a satisfying uppercut also rely on the VFX and sound design, whether fighting or action-adventure games. Below are a few games across both categories where the uppercut is a sure winner.
10 Wii Sports Boxing
There's nothing like an uppercut you can deliver by physically performing the motion yourself, and Wii Sports Boxing allows just that. You can do a powerful uppercut strike on your Mii opponent by guiding your Wii remote upward. It'll launch the character straight off the ground in a bent position, potentially resulting in a KO.
The physics of it are over the top, and it has some spectacular visual and audio cues that go along with it, such as the vibration, red and white comic book explosion, and sparks flying in the air. Seeing it in an automatic slow-motion replay from different angles is also an excellent touch.
9 Rocky
You can throw the perfect uppercut as the esteemed legendary boxer Rocky Balboa himself in 2002's Rocky game. This uppercut is a more realistic one that's a signature move for Sly Stallone, which he uses a lot in his match with Apollo Creed to knock him down in the first film, a matchup also revisited in this game.

Even though it's a boxing game, it has an arcade fighting game-style feel with the UI health meters for each character's stats, but it still progresses up to 12 rounds per match. Rocky's uppercut will send a couple of water particles from your opponent's mouth when struck.
8 God Of War
Although not one that the main character performs in the gameplay, God of War features a mighty uppercut from Baldur during his first boss fight with Kratos. It happens in a cinematic style, where a brief cutscene triggers mid-fight during each stage, and Kratos is sent flying high up in the air.
A fistfight between two formidable Gods would certainly make quite the spectacle, and their battle is among the series' best. There are many set pieces where they fight throughout the surroundings around Kratos' home, but you can almost feel the massive amount of force and strength unleashed by this uppercut that instantly knocks Kratos off his feet.
7 Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
Hand-to-hand combat is always an option over ranged in the Uncharted series, and Nathan Drake gets a pretty mean uppercut in the third installment. It's one of the punches available in his combo movesets and one that usually comes at the end of a sequence that finishes off the enemy.
Uncharted has many glorious sequences and moments in the various games, but this uppercut can almost equal those. This one allows Nathan to jump off his feet and get some airtime in his punch, which sends the enemy flying offscreen, and you can even pick up their weapon that falls in midair.
6 Batman: Arkham Knight
The Batman Arkham games offer a satisfying combat system when playing as the Dark Knight, only further highlighted by the stylish uppercut you can inflict in Batman: Arkham Knight. When done as a finishing move, the camera zooms in cinematically while Batman's fist emits traces of an orange glow before driving upward into an enemy.

The enemy gets knocked back in the air and falls back quite a distance. The uppercut stance Batman has, with the fist up in the air, torso slightly turned, and the other arm bent on his lower back, lasts for a brief moment and is an iconic and polished superhero pose.
5 Tiger Uppercut - Street Fighter Series
Street Fighter started as an arcade game and has since branched off into being a long-running fighting game series across generations of consoles. One of the fighters, Sagat, a bald, muscular man with an intimidating build who has an eyepatch concealing an eye taken from him in a fight, just so happens to have the most memorable uppercut maneuver.
As Sagat, you can get in an even higher jump with the uppercut than Nathan in Uncharted, and his left knee is bent with the left elbow tucked in midair. This specialty of Sagat is called a "Tiger Uppercut," and he announces it right as you complete the move.
4 Super Smash Bros. Series
Yet another offering from Nintendo, Super Smash Bros. is a beloved fighting game series with troves of classic characters and crossovers on its roster and phenomenally designed stages. The uppercut is always a satisfying hit to land with its win condition, no matter which version of the game you play.
In Smash Bros., your goal is to make your opponent fly offscreen to the outer boundaries of the arena without them being able to jump their way back. The uppercut can potentially blow them sky-high with a sparking cloud of smoke surrounding them and some fantastic audio feedback.
3 Mortal Kombat Series
Though fatalities are the main appeal when it comes to Mortal Kombat, the uppercut is a versatile move in the series that always gets more creative in its usage as it goes along. The uppercut is a fluid and brisk motion, which can fling opponents into environmental objects or trigger a decapitating fatality.

The form varies per character and generation of game, but the original Mortal Kombat had a nice pivot animation that felt like a solid martial arts stance. However, that same blood splatter pattern when the enemy is plunged into the air and the X-ray of the impact on the skeletal structure continues to be a classic feature.
2 Yakuza Series
The brilliant fun of the Yakuza series seems to have it all, from the combat to minigames that involve karaoke and dance along with challenging boss fights, and a clean uppercut move is also implemented in the game. Here it takes to a similar style of a slow-mo X-ray from Mortal Kombat.
Kazuma Kiryu's uppercut from Yakuza 0 particularly packs a wide swing and feels pretty overpowered for someone who's a mere debt collector for the Japanese mob. When an execution move, a close-up of the punch making contact with the enemy's face appears, with a bit of blood gushing from the mouth before they're up and away.
1 Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!
Sometimes the classic just can't be beaten. Punch-Out!! was a 1987 SNES release of the original arcade game that launched three years prior, now with Mike Tyson as a boxer you face. Your character here is a tiny boxing icon named Little Mac with green gloves who goes up against gargantuan heavyweight boxing champs.
For taking on boxers double his size, Little Mac still has no trouble sending them flying across the ring with his swift uppercut strike. Being a retro pixel art game, the animations are smooth and convincing, and the sound design is spot-on with the aesthetics. Mario appearing as a referee is also a plus.
