Thanks to how iconic the setting has become over the years, it’s managed to feature in plenty of excellent games. Honestly, it’s almost a surprise more haven’t been set there thanks to the sheer atmosphere.
14 Assassin's Creed: Syndicate
The ninth installment of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed franchise follows the footsteps of British twins, Jacob and Evie Frye. The game is set in London in 1868, with the city going through some major changes due to the Industrial Revolution.
The Assassin twins are on a mission for Queen and country, aiming to wrest control of London from the hands of Starrick and the Templars. Along the way, the twins receive help from famous historical figures like Dickens and Marx.
Also, the game's DLC sees Evie go head-to-head against Jack the Ripper, who became disillusioned with the Assassins and went on a deranged killing spree.
13 Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs
While Amnesia does bounce around quite a bit with its narrative and what is actually happening at any given moment, it does take place in Victorian England. The creepy and mind-bending game does what its predecessor does best, terrifying anyone who plays it, even beginners.
Being another excellent survival-horror experience, you’ll have to solve puzzles all while discovering the web of strange happenings that all begin after Oswald Mandus hears the voices of his sons. It’s best to give the game a shot without anything being spoiled, but just know, it’s a worthy successor to Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
12 The Sherlock Holmes Series
Frogwares' Sherlock Holmes series takes you on the most thrilling adventures as the legendary detective himself. Set in foggy, 19th-century London, Sherlock Holmes and his loyal companion Dr. Watson tackle the most perplexing mysteries from their real-life flat on 221B Baker Street.
Holmes's murder cases have you stalking the murky streets of Whitechapel on the hunt for Jack the Ripper. From visiting the British Museum to prevent a heist to stopping Professor Moriarty from overthrowing Queen Victoria, crime never rests in Victorian London.
11 American McGee's Alice & Alice: Madness Returns
Game developer American McGee's take on the children's tale of Alice in Wonderland turns the originally lighthearted story into a psychological horror dark fantasy. The first game is set in London in 1863, while its sequel, Alice: Madness Returns, is set in 1875. Alice Liddell falls into a coma after a house fire that killed her parents in 1863.

Sent to Rutledge Asylum, she finds herself in a twisted version of Wonderland. She battles enemies and finally defeats the Queen of Hearts, which ultimately restores her mind to her.
In the sequel, Alice has left the asylum for an orphanage but is still plagued with visions of Wonderland. Wonderland is in trouble again and as Alice progresses, she starts to remember what happened during the fire, and in a shocking twist, Alice discovers that her doctor tried to kill her entire family in order to hide a heinous crime.
10 Jack The Ripper
This game may be a major throwback, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a fun little game to play. Jack The Ripper is a classic text-based game from the late eighties that tasks you with clearing your name after being accused of murder.
It’s surprising how advanced the game could be for its time, with things happening in real-time. It may not hold up for many gamers’ tastes these days, but for someone interested in playing a gem of an adventure from the past, Jack The Ripper is a fun little adventure to explore.
9 Dishonored
This steampunk, action-adventure RPG follows Corvo Attano's mission to clear his name after being accused of killing his Empress. With the aid of his gadgets and tools, the bodyguard-turned-assassin must overthrow the corrupt system and save the Empress's daughter.
Although the game is set in the fictional location of plague-ridden Dunwall, the developers designed the city based on Victorian-era London during the Industrial Revolution. The difference is that the world of Dishonored has much more advanced technology than Victorian England, as well as some supernatural powers.
8 Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night
Headed by Castlevania's former developer, the Metroidvania-style Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is set in the midst of Victorian England's Industrial Revolution. The plot follows the Alchemy Guild's botched attempt to maintain its power by summoning demons.
The main character is the Shardbinder Miriam, a human experiment combined with a demonic crystal against her will. She must stop a fellow Shardbinder after he vows to wreak vengeance on the Guild, threatening to release a horde of demons upon England.
7 The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles
Anyone who knows about the Ace Attorney series will already know what to expect from a game like this. While the whole story doesn’t technically take place in Victorian England, a large portion of the story has to do with the setting, complete with some surprising references.
Essentially, you take control of a young lawyer who makes their way to England in the Victorian era, and the usual Ace Attorney shenanigans ensue. You’ll have to solve the many murder mysteries all while laughing and being shocked by the many twists each of the cases can take.
6 The Order: 1886
The Order: 1886 is a third-person shooter action-adventure game launched in 2015.Taking place in London in 1886, the game follows the story of Sir Galahad, a member of the Knights of the Round Table. The latter group is sworn to hunt down half-breed monsters, a battle they'd been losing until the Victorian era.

Despite receiving mixed reactions from critics, The Order: 1886's graphics are still nothing to scoff at today. Its cinematic feel and steampunk aesthetic remains a joy to experience.
5 Victoria 2
The second installment in the Victoria series, Victoria 2 is a strategy game launched in 2010. Starting from 1836, Victoria 2 gives you the option of eight different types of governments and various citizen statuses.
With over 200 nations to choose where to start as your base, managing your chosen nation is a challenge. The addition of real-life historical events is also a factor in determining whether your nation will survive or not.
