The Best Armor In Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, Ranked

Summary
- Keep close tabs on your inventory in Eiyuden Chronicle for optimal battle strategy against the Galdean Empire.
- Upgrade Frida's Armor Shop to max for second-best gear like League Robe or Red Riding Hood for mage characters.
- Top-tier gear like Primordial Scarf can be found in specific locations during gameplay progression.
In Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, what your massive pool of prospective party members have equipped on their person (or dragon, or griffon, or...) is almost as important as what they bring to battle on an individual basis. And, since there are some fairly rigid rules on who can equip what, you're going to want to keep an eye on your inventory.

PostsThroughout your Eiyuden adventure, stronger armor will steadily become available - it's an RPG, so hardly a surprise! - but you will need to go out of your way with specific approaches to get your hands on most of the best. Here's how to do just that.
1 The Best Light Armor
We'll start with the best pieces of equipment for your Eiyuden Chronicle party members for whom the big, bulky, stuff just isn't going to work. We're using the term "light armor" a tad loosely here because there are actually two categories for the chest gear: there's light armor, and then there's the even-lighter category, which is simply referred to as clothing.
Runner-Ups: League Robe/League Light Armor/League Scarf or Red Riding Hood
As you'll no doubt note, League equipment tends to be the second-best fare in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. The Red Riding Hood, however, justifies an easy placement right alongside the League Scarf (both of which belong to the light head gear category) with its ever-handy +5 Magic stat boost.
That +5 Magic boost isn't worth it for any character who isn't a mage by design - that is to say, there's no point equipping it to a physical fighter who would benefit more from something with straightforwardly higher Defense and/or Magic Defense. For them, you'll want the League Scarf.
Obtaining the League gear is easy. Well, "easy." You need to upgrade Frida's Armor Shop to its maximum, which is considered a fourth-level castle upgrade. You'll not have the necessary materials to do so until shortly before the end of the game. Once you've reached level four, you'll need 12 Ancient Dragon's Tooth for the armor upgrade.
Red Riding Hood is a prize for acing the theater play by the same name. We have a guide up on how to do so!

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes doesn't prioritize its postgame, but there are still some fun things to do.
PostsThe Winner: Primordial Robe/Primordial Light Armor/Primordial Scarf
You'll notice a pretty blatant trend: the Primordial garb is always the top-tier Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes option. The Primordial Scarf, with 18 MD, 27 MD, and 15 DEX, fits the bill. To get it, progress through the Mysterious Room, which is also a glorious place to level-farm.
If you should manage to obtain the final character, she comes equipped with another Primordial Scarf!
For the Primordial Light Armor, return to the Rune Research Facility dungeon near the end of the story after routing the Dux's forces. Near the boss room, this chest should appear.
There are two Primordial Robes. One is at Castle Harganthia, near where you encountered its boss (again, you must return after the war battle with the Dux); the other is, similar to the Primordial Scarf, obtainable through the Heroes Proving Grounds at the Mysterious Room.
2 The Best Normal Armor
This one's for the "normies." Plenty of your recruitable cast belongs to this tier, perhaps more so than any other, so there are ample representatives across the tale.
Runner-Ups: League Armor or Blessed Armor/League Helmet or Sacred Helmet
With so many prospective party members, there are, indeed, going to be a handful of viable fighters who lean toward the magic side of the offensive (or even protective) equation but still equip bulkier garb than their lighter-wielding allies.
That's why the Blessed Armor and Sacred Helmet, each with defensive capabilities nearly as high as the League Armor and League Helmet, yet sporting boosts to the Magic stat, should be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Both of these are found in treasure chests at Gardhaven Castle.
As for the League Armor and League Helmet, you'll acquire these at Frida's fully-upgraded shop as with all other League gear.

These early picks will take you far.
PostsThe Winner: Primordial Armor and Primordial Helmet
Another easy winner here. The Primordial Armor is found at the Runebarrows dungeon that's linked to CJ's recruitment quest. We've seen it mentioned online (specifically, via Reddit) that it's outside the entrance, obscured to the point that you can't rely purely on the camera to isolate it. Unfortunately, we haven't yet confirmed this ourselves!
For the Primordial Helmet, head to the boss room at the Northern Runebarrows. This, as always, will only spawn closer to the end of the game.
3 The Best Heavy Armor
Now on to our heavily-clad fighters like Garr. In our experience, at least, this one's the most straightforward of all!
Runner-Up: League Plate Mail and League Face Guard
Lo and behold, the second-best heavy armor is acquired via Frida in her final armor shop upgrade at the castle. Three cheers for Frida, eh?
The Winner: Primordial Plate Mail and Primordial Face Guard
The Primordial Mail can be found at the far end of the final room at the Proving Ground dungeon. We're not sure exactly when the treasure chest spawns - we can't imagine it's as soon as you've defeated the boss(es) here, as that's still fairly early on - but it's worth keeping tabs on to see just how quickly it can be acquired.
The Primordial Helmet can be found at the end of the Eldroad. Consult our Primordial gear guide for details.
4 The Best Shield
Shields are equippable only by certain characters. Their "Armor Rating" is tiered by several ascending letters - from D to S - and their durability is reflective of this. They'll never break for good and all, but within any given battle, they'll take a higher number of hits before they shatter until the end of the encounter.
Runner-Up: League Shield
Hardly surprising. Again, many thanks, Frida!
The Winner: Primordial Shield
Teleport to outside the Runebarrows over in Grum County, AKA a very early location in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. We should emphasize one last time, this will only spawn toward the end of the game, after defeating the Dux on the open field!

Suikoden fans everywhere rejoiced at the announcement of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, a spiritual successor from series creator Yoshitaka Murayama. (RIP, buddy.) After years in development, it finally launched in 2024. Does it live up to Konami's long-dormant RPG epic?
