Although the main story of Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon may have ended, there is yet another, secret chapter hidden within the title's main menu. While Cereza's story may be well and done, the attention yet shines on another: Jeanne.
RELATED: Bayonetta Origins: Cereza And The Lost Demon - Complete Combat GuideThe secret, 14th chapter follows Jeanne, and its contents feature a slew of challenging battles that end in one of the game's hardest boss fights. However, if you haven't played or watched Bayonetta 3, you might want to spend a little time catching up before you take Jeanne out to play.
Jeanne's Tale - Getting Started
To access Jeanne's Tale, you'll need to have completed all of Cereza's tale in the main story campaign. There is no specific percentage or difficulty you must have completed in order to unlock it.
After all thirteen chapters are complete and the end credits have rolled, you can find this chapter, "Jeanne's Tale," in the main menu's "Extras" section.
Your controls for this tale will all be the same as if you were playing with Cereza and Cheshire like normal. However, there are a few key differences:
- Jeanne's Thorn Bind has only one cooldown meter, grows in size as you cast it, and can Thorn Bind multiple enemies at once. Its cooldown is also slower.
- You have no access to potions. Healing is only done by gaining Vitality Flowers after battle challenges. Thus, the final fight must be done with no healing.
- Jeanne starts and ends her tale with less health than Cereza at her endgame state. However, each battle will leave you with one full vitality petal.
- Jeanne does not have access to Cheshire-Unbound.
Getting To Know Charles
After climbing through the first portion of Sunspeckled Grove, you'll come into contact with and recruit Charles.
Although his appearance and name will change, there are no mechanical differences between Cheshire and Charles.
As the path ahead of you is linear and there are no collectibles to find, continue along the path as prompted by the game. There are no puzzles or enemies to face that you have not already faced before.
There are five enemy fights you must clear under normal conditions (no odd tricks or gimmicks) - two of which are in Tir Na Nogs and three in the overworld - which will give you a full Vitality Flower as a reward for clearing. These battles are spread out over three locations:
- Sunspeckled Grove
- Wyvern Falls
- Whispering Path / Morgana's Home
After finishing the overworld fight in Morgana's Home, take the stairs to the right of the Vitality Flower chest down to the illusion field that leads to the final boss fight.
Affirmer Of Phenomena
The Affirmer of Phenomena is a difficult fight that isn't forgiving due to your inability to heal, and forces you to face bosses you defeated along Cereza's journey:
- Amadan Dubh - 80 percent HP remaining
- Angel Affinity - 50 percent HP remaining
- Jabberwock - 20 percent HP remaining
Affirmer of Phenomena has several decent long-range and melee options that he uses randomly, and he appears to favor attacks against Jeanne over Cheshire. As a result, you'll need to keep your guard up with Jeanne the whole time.
For this fight, using Cheshire's special attacks and Bind Combos are discouraged. Dodging (for both Charles/Cheshire and Jeanne) and neutral attacks are the better method for this fight.
When the Affirmer of Phenomenon prepares to summon another boss, there is a cutscene where the Affirmer will temporarily leave the arena to let you deal with the bosses he summons through a scroll.
You aren't able to fight these bosses when they're first summoned. They are typically summoned in waves of three, then two, and then one. This does mean you'll be contending with three Amadans, three Affinities, and three Jabberwocks at the beginning of their summonings.
Dodge the opening attacks from the hoards of bosses and then, once the boss is alone, take care of that boss in the manner you did when you first fought them. Thankfully, they have low health and can be dealt with swiftly.
Amadan Dubh
Attack once and then pull the handle on his ball with Wood Cheshire to knock him off. Thorn Bind and attack.
Affinities
Wait for the barrage of Affinities to end and then use Thorn Vice. Attack.
Jabberwock
Wait for the Thorn Vice prompt to appear, restrain it, and use Stone Cheshire to break its armor. Attack.
Once the boss he's summoned is defeated, the Affirmer will return to the arena where you'll need to take him on again.
In the case of the Jabberwock, the Affirmer will be knocked into the arena forcefully, and you can use Thorn Vice on him. Attacking while he's bound, this should finish off the remainder of his health and end the fight.
Affirmer defeated, you'll end Jeanne's Tale (and, subsequently, Bayonetta Origins) with an interesting note for Bayonetta series fans and a collection of new outfits for Cereza and Cheshire.
