Baldur's Gate 3 is an expansive game full of possibilities, with Larian's wildly successful RPG drawing comparisons to immersive sims because of the numerous ways you can handle situations. With a game like Baldur's Gate 3, there's always more to discover.
A recent discovery doing the rounds on social media is a deadly boulder trap that can be found at the entrance to the Goblin Camp in Act 1. Reddit user SuperSemesterer highlighted their personal experience with this little-known Boulder, detailing how a discerning Goblin utilised this trap to wipe out an entire party on honour mode.
Goblin Ingenuity
"On my ninth run, honour mode, at the Goblin Outpost with the two Klaw Wargs. I've beaten honour four times before, this is an easy fight. I'm fully rested, zero reason to be worried," SuperSemesterer begins their tale. "Out of nowhere a goblin shoots some logs with an arrow and a boulder rolls down the hill, flattening like two goblins and killing my whole party, I had no idea that was there."
There's always a chance when you play honour mode that some unknown variable causes a full-party wipe, that's the beauty of the game mode. The boulder appears to be a trap set by the Goblins, as it's wedged behind a stick on a slope. The pair of entrance guards don't much care about killing their brethren to wipe out the party, either. Considering how much damage to Goblinkind the party may inflict in the future, this is perhaps an intelligent yet brutal act on their part.
This obviously isn't the first time someone has discovered this boulder trap, but a lot of people in the replies are expressing their surprise, saying they had no idea about this trap even after numerous playthroughs.
An explanation for this collective gap in knowledge is that most people don't fight these Goblins from an angle where the boulder is relevant. Most players don't engage in conflict with the Goblins until they're already deep in the camp, usually after freeing Halsin. This means that when they emerge from the bowels of the camp and fight those outside, they're already behind these Goblins and away from the potentially fatal boulder.
I haven't been a victim of this trap yet and, with this newfound knowledge, I likely never will be. My honour mode runs are safe from these conniving goblins.
