One of the most beloved characters in Baldur's Gate 3 is Alfira, the tiefling bard. You find her early in the game and continue to run into her as you pursue a cure for the tadpole. While she's a colorful NPC to interact with, the Dark Urge has sinister plans for her.

There are consequences for playing a Dark Urge character, and one such consequence involves Alfira when she comes to your camp. While your first instinct might be to welcome her with open arms, you'll want to think again. This is the gruesome introduction to life as the Dark Urge.

Who Is Alfira?

If you're not familiar with Alfira, you can find her in Act One at the Druid Grove. She'll be a bit to the east playing her lute. Talk to her to help write a song.

It's an endearing moment that makes you grow fond of her. If you've played through a good portion of the game already, you'll know that she can safely make it to Baldur's Gate and pursue her dreams.

There's a dark and twisted turn in the Dark Urge route, however, that forces you to cut the chords prematurely, and (fair warning) it isn't pretty.

Can You Save Alfira At Camp?

Unfortunately, the short answer is no. Once she shows up at camp and begs to travel with you, her fate is sealed.

If you let her join you, she will be killed. If you send her away, your character finds her and kills her anyway while you are asleep.

If you side with Minthara and the goblins, you cannot save Alfira. Saving her from the Dark Urge in this scene will not spare her later.

Either way, you'll be left to dispose of her body or face your party members. You can plead guilty or lie your way out of it, but it's something your companions won't forget easily.

How To Save Alfira From The Dark Urge

The only way to save Alfira is to knock her out at the Druid Grove. She's isolated, so you won't initiate combat.

Toggle Non-Lethal Damage on and take a few swings with a melee weapon. She'll drop to one HP, and you can go to camp without worry.

In her place, Quil Grootslang will arrive at camp seeking refuge. She takes Alfira's place in this gruesome event, sparing the tiefling from harm.

Attacking the player character to kill them when Alfira is at camp does not work. The part will end the day and wake up to Alfira's corpse as if the Dark Urge had done it themselves.

Should You Save Or Sacrifice Alfira?

Deciding to save Alfira is up to you and how you want to play your character. You'll still receive the Deathstalker Mantle as a prize for eliminating either bard.

Otherwise, it makes no difference besides missing one bard over the other. If you're fond of Alfira from another play through (or you just like her character), it's worth the extra effort to see her grow through each act.
