Summary

  • Early pre-orders for Assassin's Creed Shadows are said to be "looking very strong".
  • Ubisoft hasn't commented on this, but it's already appearing in the best-sellers list on Epic Games Store.

Assassin's Creed Shadows was properly revealed earlier this week, following its vague tease back in 2022. Alongside the reveal trailer, pre-orders also went live, as the game is set to launch later this year.

Now, it looks like there's already a lot of excitement for Assassin's Creed Shadows, as early pre-order figures are said to be "very strong". As reported by Eurogamer, this claim comes from industry insider Tom Henderson, who says that everyone he's talked with is pleased by the game's performance so far.

Assassins Creed Shadows Is Apparently Selling Well, Despite The Hate

While this hasn't been confirmed by Ubisoft just yet, Assassins Creed Shadows is already showing up on the best-sellers list over on the Epic Games Store, so it's clearly impressed some fans with its big reveal trailer. We haven't even seen the gameplay yet, with the trailer focusing on the story and characters.

Unfortunately, much of the conversation online was taken up by the hate directed towards the two player characters - particularly Yasuke. Since the reveal, many have argued that we shouldn't be playing as a Black character in a game set in Japan, which has resulted in a lot of racism taking up the conversation. This is despite both Yasuke being a real figure from Japanese history, and the other player character, Naoe, being Japanese.

So, if sales really are strong despite this - and the ensuing calls for a boycott - then it's a reassuring reminder that those out there crying about wokeness are in the minority. At the end of the day, it's a Ubisoft game and a new instalment in the Assassin's Creed series, so of course there are plenty of people wanting to check it out.

This also ignores the actual real problems we're already seeing with Assassin's Creed Shadows. For instance, you'll need an internet connection to install the game (but not to play), a growing trend in the industry. There are also three different versions of the game to pre-order, which paywalls in-game content from day one.

Assassins Creed Shadows is set to launch on November 15.
