Ubisoft unveiled the first Assassin's Creed Shadows roadmap last week, confirming that a "special collaboration" is due in late May. We don't know what it is yet, but if leaks are anything to go by, then that crossover might be from a certain galaxy far, far away...

Last month, Access the Animus shared alleged concept art by Tyler Ryan on Bluesky (first uncovered by Discord user Wallourdes), which shows Naoe in Jedi and Sith robes, wielding blue and red lightsabers. Granted, the art is from a "few years back", so whether it's still relevant is unclear, but there's some credence to the idea that Star Wars will be the first crossover.

Japan just held the Star Wars Celebration at the end of April; it's the 20th anniversary of Revenge of the Sith; and Ubisoft-developed Star Wars Outlaws is getting a new story pack on May 15. If there was ever a time for the two worlds to collide, it would be now. Some even speculate that the collaboration will coincide with the story pack, A Pirate's Fortune.

It Wouldn't Be The Weirdest Crossover Assassin's Creed Has Done

Here is an actual concept for Assassin's Creed Shadows created by Concept Artist Tyler Ryan "a few years back". Would you like to see a collaboration between Assassin's Creed and Star Wars in the future? — Access The Animus (@accesstheanimus.com) 2025-03-28T15:47:08.328Z

You might think that a lightsaber sounds far-fetched for an Assassin's Creed game, but there are a couple of easy explanations that make it a little less immersion-breaking: a) it's an Isu artefact, or b) it's someone modding their Animus. Memories are treated like video games in-universe now, so it's hardly a stretch to imagine people adding lightsabers to Feudal Japan. But it's far from the weirdest crossover that the series has done.

There are more "special collaborations" due later this year.

Assassin's Creed Origins went all in with its Final Fantasy 15 crossover, back when everyone — even Half-Life — was getting entangled in Square Enix's tentpole JRPG. If you completed the collaboration quest, unearthing a few puzzles and finding yourself in the belly of a small pyramid, you could unlock a chocobo to traverse Egypt with, as well as the Ultima Blade and Ziedrich shield.

So, it's not unprecedented for the series, and it's not like all the cosmetics are exactly lore-friendly anyway. At any rate, it's worth taking all of this with a grain of coarse, rough, irritating sand. It might end up being something completely different to Star Wars. But with the collaboration set to release later this month, we'll find out soon enough.
