Aka is a peaceful life sim that offers relaxing gameplay. Aka, the hero of this story, has fought a long-winding war. Now he wants to help rebuild and then retire. However, he is reminded of the past through ghosts, as well as the physical remnants of war on the islands.

The game is incredibly chill and deceitfully simple, but it does leave us with some unanswered questions and moral dilemmas to tackle. These range from the game's logic to its magic systems, and even character interactions that don't make a lot of sense.
10 Were There Humans Before?
There is certainly a diversity of animals in the game, but one has to wonder if humans were also present prior to the war. If there were humans, what happened to them, and why are talking animals the only ones left on the islands? Maybe it's because most of the war hasn't been kind to other races in the game, or maybe they didn't even exist in the first place.
But it was implied that many have come and gone in the islands, so who knows if humans were also one of those who passed over?
9 Why Can't We Interact With Some Animals As Our Equals In The Game?
You interacted with the Queen of the Bees, spoke to a snail who believes they move quickly, and even encountered an ancient dragon that speaks our language. But one of the first missions you get is to free farm animals from their fence, and you can't really talk to them or interact with them the same way you do with other NPCs.

You also can't talk to flies, but can talk to a koala? You're a talking red panda, but a bunch of fenced farm animals couldn't for some reason. You probably don't understand why this is happening, and we don't either.
8 How Did Animals Gain Sentience And Reason?
Sadly, you don't get to see the evolution of animals in this game. All we know is that there are animals older and wiser than others, and some animals have gone rare or extinct since you barely see any of them (if at all).
In any case, you're probably wondering how these red pandas gained the knowledge to wield katanas, how animals began engaging in warfare, and how some animals even organize their groups—almost as though they do so as humans. For an open-world game, you'd have expected more lore regarding the past of the islands and the history of the game's world.
7 Are The Ghosts A Reflection Of Aka's Troubled Past?
Ghosts seem to be littered on all the islands, and the other NPCs don't seem to be bothered to talk to them. That must mean that only Aka can see these ghosts, or the other animals simply don't know what to do with these unhappy spirits.
But it's important to remember that all of these spirits that showed up on the islands were connected to Aka in several ways, and whether they were treated by Aka ideally is out of the question due to the nature of war. It's possible that these ghosts all appear to Aka, or need to pass over by confronting Aka one last time.
6 Speaking Of Ghosts, Why Are They Showing Up In Random Places?
While it's also unclear why Aka's the only one who can interact with ghosts, it's also unclear why they're showing up in places that they didn't really die in. It would make sense that the developers only placed these ghosts in areas that remind them of the nature of their deaths.

However, there are some, like Misao, who appeared at a beachside when it was implied that they didn't die in such an area. Regardless, the majority of these ghosts died in captivity and isolation in other places. Their souls aren't accurate markers of where they died.
5 Why Was Kachina Imprisoned?
We stumble upon this majestic fox spirit who has a beautiful room but is covered in weeds that have thorns. Talking about why spirits can be changed by physical branches and thorns is a different debate in itself, but the bigger question to ask is why Kachina was even imprisoned in the first place.
And why is it that even in death, Kachina's soul couldn't be freed? The spirit told you how it has been oppressed, but the reasons behind it aren't exactly known. What matters is that there is a way to set the spirit of Kachina free, it's just a mystery as to how they ended up in such a state.
4 What Happened To The Dragons?
Dragons were revealed to be ancient beings that existed long before the war. But it is also revealed that there are now few that exist, including those baby dragons that you cook for and feed in the game. We can only wonder what happened to the dragons that led to their kind's decline.

It is also mentioned that the baby dragons will leave once they grow capable on their own, but it's a mystery as to where these dragons are heading off to one day. It might also mean that there are other dragons out there than the ones we were able to find and care for.
3 What Happened To The Other Red Pandas?
There are only two red pandas left in the game, which are Aka and Boop. We're unsure as to what happened to the rest of the red pandas in this world, and you're only certain of another red panda's fated end.
Maybe this is just a way of emphasizing the loss of war, in which even history isn't saved from getting pillaged or lost. At least Boop's around to make Aka feel less alone, and we're lucky to not be the last of our kind in this game.
2 Why Did Aka Have To Fight In The War?
It might even be a better question to ask who exactly commanded this war and enlisted a red panda to fight in it. It's clear that not every animal in this game fought in the war, but the criteria for those who had to fight weren't clear either. All we get are sad backstories of Aka's ghost-in-arms, and the rest is just an idle game of planting, feeding, and beautifying the islands.
Maybe we can blame it on Aka's ability to take up the sword, but we also don't know if that's a skill acquired during the war or something Aka's always known how to do.
1 What Started The War?
As horrible as war is, you can definitely say that its cause is a curious point in the game. You left a war zone at the start, clearing animal hunting traps for a good portion of the game, and helped souls pass over by talking to them. But while the lives and deaths of those in the war were documented, it wasn't clear what started the war and what it was even about.
All we can infer from these wars is that they most likely didn't involve guns or anything that would utterly wreck the environment, based on the traps and the weapon Aka used.
