Activision Banned 65,000 Call Of Duty Cheaters After Purge

Summary
- Call of Duty is now officially on Game Pass with the release of Modern Warfare 3.
- That said, the game was marred by an influx of cheaters due to issues with the RICOCHET system and players disguising their platform.
- Now, Activision has revealed that over 65,000 accounts have been banned in the wake of the massive cheating scandal.
By now you've probably heard of the rampant uptick in cheating spread across Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and its free-to-play WarZone mode following the game's release on Game Pass. If you haven't, let us catch you up.
After much anticipation, the first Call of Duty game appeared on Microsoft's Game Pass in the form of Modern Warfare 3. That was last week, and shortly after that, an influx of cheaters began appearing in the game's online modes. That's because, according to reporting, bad actors were able to disguise what platform they were on. The majority of cheats are on PC, and players who have already been caught and banned needed to just sign up for Game Pass to have a new account.

PostsActivision spoke out following the influx, noting that there was an issue with its proprietary RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system. More so, Activision explained how it is able to detect what platform a player is on, despite whatever platform is showing up, and that the company was "committed" to combating cheaters.
Now, a few days later, Activision has come out and said that it's banned thousands of accounts.
65,000-Plus Cheaters Have Gotten The Axe, Per Activision
In a statement posted to Twitter, Activision revealed that it has purged the leaderboards of Call of Duty ranked play, going as far as to ban the accounts involved with cheating and boosting.
The company went on to reveal that over 65,000 players have now been banned as the RICOCHET system accelerated its enforcement system. Those cheaters were allegedly doing so in both Ranked Play and non-Ranked modes. Activision's full statement is as follows:
The RICOCHET Anti-Cheat team has now purged the Ranked Play leaderboards in both Call of Duty: Warzone and #MWIII, banning accounts for cheating and boosting.
#TeamRICOCHET has accelerated cheat vendor enforcements resulting in over 65,000 account bans across Ranked Play and non-Ranked modes in #Warzone and #MW3 this week.
The team will continue to monitor and issue enforcements to anyone cheating or boosting in all game modes.
That's a heavy influx of cheaters, and it's possible that the number will steadily grow as the system catches up with past reports. While Activision originally said it is able to detect what platform a player is on, it appears that there was some level of discrepancy following the GamePass release that allowed cheaters to infiltrate in droves.
Regardless, it seems like Activision has some stuff it needs to clean up before Black Ops 6 becomes the first day-and-date COD on Game Pass. A similar situation happening at launch would be catastrophic to say the least.
