Summary

  • Warner Bros and TT Games are officially working on a new Lego game.
  • The new game is being built in Unreal Engine 5, not TT's proprietary engine NTT.
  • Fans are speculating the new game could be a complete version of Lego Harry Potter.

A new job listing has confirmed that Warner Bros Discovery and TT Games are currently gearing up to develop a new Lego game in Unreal Engine 5.

The listing for Senior Game Programmer reads, "The project you will be on will be a major IP-based Lego game built in Unreal." These two facts are a given, so there are no surprises there. Still, fans of the Lego games series will be heartened to hear TT Games is working on the next instalment.

Lego: The Skywalker Saga was built on the proprietary NTT engine, but the resulting disastrous crunch-laden development cycle forced TT Games to agree to use Unreal Engine going forward, per Polygon.

Nothing in the remainder of the listing is too revealing, just the usual responsibilities you'd expect of a senior developer. Before the release of The Skywalker Saga, a senior member of TT Games called the game a "flag bearer" for the future of the series, implying that the format of The Skywalker Saga may be the format for the series going forward.

Harry Potter, or Batman?

This has led to speculation that the upcoming game could be a 'complete' version of Lego Harry Potter, in the vein of The Skywalker Saga. This could include all 7 movies and potentially the Fantastic Beasts movies, too.

However, the Lego Harry Potter collection is already getting a paid remaster on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. With this unannounced game potentially years away, this may not have any bearing on whether the new game is based on Harry Potter or not, but it is worth noting.

Another popular guess among the Lego gaming community is another entry in the Lego Batman series, possibly Lego DC Super-Villians 2. DC and Harry Potter are the two biggest franchises that Warner Bros owns and so are strong contenders for a new Lego game.
