Summary

  • Capcom has revealed a range of official Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 accessories.
  • The game is getting a shiny red DualSense and black PS5 covers, both of which have Monster Hunter patterns on them.
  • The accessories have only been revealed in Japan, indicating they might not be getting a worldwide release.

Hype for Monster Hunter Wilds has been building this week thanks to a showcase about the game on Wednesday which included additional info about the next game in the series alongside a brand new trailer. Since that showcase, Capcom has revealed a special edition Monster Hunter Wilds DualSense and matching PS5 console cover that will be released alongside the game, but as far as we know, only Monster Hunter fans in Japan will have the chance to own it.

A first look at the Monster Hunter controller and covers has been shown off via a post on the Japanese PlayStation blog. The DualSense is similar to the Volcanic Red option available worldwide but with Monster Hunter Wilds markings printed around its border and on the touchpad in silver. The controller costs 12,480 yen which is roughly $82, so similarly priced to special edition PS5 controllers in the US.

Even though I said the covers and DualSense match, that's not technically true. While they have been revealed together, and feature the same symbols, the cover is a little different as it isn't the same shade of red as the Monster Hunter DualSense. It isn't red at all, in fact. PlayStation's Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 cover is black all over other than the aforementioned symbols and patterns which can be found on some of its corners. The covers are slightly cheaper at 9,980 yen, so about $66.

Monster Hunter Wilds Will Be The Next Game To Get Its Own PS5 Accessories

I'm Sure There Will Be Ways We Can Get Them Shipped From Japan

Unfortunately, the blog post makes no mention of when the Monster Hunter Wilds accessories will be released outside of Japan. There's a strong chance that never happens at all and it wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened - the Final Fantasy 16 DualSense still hasn't been released outside of Japan. Monster Hunter Wilds will be a hit the world over, but there's no doubt it will be bigger in Japan than it is anywhere else. Perhaps PlayStation and Capcom don't have quite enough faith in the series' worldwide popularity to release the controller and covers elsewhere.

Even though Monster Hunter Wilds will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC at launch, it does feel a little like Capcom has been speaking with PlayStation a lot more than anyone else as the build to the next game in the series continues. Not only does the game now have its own DualSense and PS5 covers, but the open beta announced this week that begins on October 28, 2024, will be exclusively available to PS Plus subscribers for its first three days.
