9 Yainer Diaz

For years, the Houston Astros had Martin Maldando as their primary catcher. Not only was he dreadful defensively, but one of the worst hitters in baseball. Anybody would’ve been better, but lucky for the Astros, they got someone great.

Yainer Diaz may not have the mileage, but he has plenty of potential. An 82 overall rating in MLB The Show 24 may not seem astronomical, but given his raw talent and chance to develop on a good team, Diaz will probably only see his rating increase in subsequent entries.

8 Jonah Heim

Catcher Jonah Heim might’ve been the unsung hero of the 2023 Texas Rangers. In his first breakout season, Heim was a constantly steady hitter and superb defender. Given the year he’s had, it’s no surprise he’s rated well in this year’s MLB The Show.

With an 83 overall, Heim is a well-rounded backstop and solid hitter. Ultimately, however, his true talent comes from his Gold Glove-winning defense. For those players who want their catcher to be as dependable with their glove as their bat, Heim is a solid option.

7 Willson Contreras

The past couple of years have been rough for the St. Louis Cardinals. Even after signing the free agent and former Cubs catcher Willson Contreras to multi-year contract, that wasn’t enough to turn the tables. Even if Contreras hasn’t always been consistent, he remains a dynamic hitter.
