How To Find And Trap A Zombie Villager
Cured zombie villagers can be valuable assets in your Minecraft world, but finding and capturing them can be tricky. This section will show you how to increase your chances of encountering a zombie villager and safely trap it for later curing it into a villager.
How To Find A Zombie Villager
There are four main ways to find a zombie villager:
How
Description
Natural Spawning
When a group of zombies spawns at night, there's a 5% chance one will be a zombie villager instead. This is uncommon, so patience is key.
Zombie Villager Conversion
If a normal zombie kills a villager, there's a chance the villager will transform into a zombie villager.
Igloos
Every igloo basement spawns a zombie villager alongside a cleric villager. These won't despawn, so they're a guaranteed find.
Abandoned Villages
A small percentage (2%) of villages generate abandoned, with some containing zombie villagers. These also won't despawn.
How To Trap A Zombie Villager
Once you find your zombie villager, it's crucial to trap it safely. Here's what you'll need:
- Enough blocks to build a small enclosure.
- A door or gate to seal the enclosure and keep the zombie villager inside.
Here's how to trap your zombie villager:
Construct a small, roofed enclosure. This will protect the villager from sunlight, which burns them during the day. Carefully nudge the zombie villager towards the enclosure's entrance by allowing it to follow you. Once the villager enters the enclosure, leave, and quickly place the door or gate to block the exit.
Remember, mobs despawn if no players are within 128 blocks. Make sure you or another player are nearby to prevent your trapped zombie villager from disappearing.
What Are The Materials Needed To Cure A Zombie Villager?
Before you attempt this, there are a few materials you'll need to find. To cure a zombie villager, you will need:
Requirement
How To Get It
Brewing Stand
You can craft a Brewing Stand by placing a Blaze Rod in the center (middle section) and three Cobblestone along the bottom section of the crafting table; they might also generate in villages and inside churches.
Fermented Spider Eye
You can craft a Fermented Spider Eye using the crafting table. Place a Spider Eye (obtained from killing spiders) in the center (bottom section), a Brown Mushroom on the left (middle section), and Sugar in the center (middle section).
Golden Apple
You can make your very own Golden Apple, although it's quite expensive. You'll have to place an Apple right in the center of the crafting grid and then fully surround it with Gold Ingots. Alternatively, they can sometimes be found when exploring mineshafts, dungeons, ruins, and the Woodland Mansion.
3 Water Bottles
You can get Water Bottles by crafting Glass Bottles and then filling them with water. Place one glass on the left and another one on the right in the middle section of the crafting table, and then another glass in the center of the bottom section. Do this three times and then take the bottles to a water source to fill them.
Gunpowder
There are three ways to obtain Gunpowder in Minecraft: you can purchase it from a Wandering Trader (although there's a chance they won't be selling it), loot it from chests as you explore, or farm Creepers, Ghasts, and Witches. Creepers are usually the easiest way to get gunpowder.
Blaze Powder
If you place a Blaze Rod in a crafting grid, it'll turn into two Blaze Powders.
How To Create A Splash Potion Of Weakness
Once you've gathered all the necessary materials, you need to create a Splash Potion of Weakness. To create the potion, do as follows:
- Place the Blaze Powder, the water bottles, and the fermented spider eye in the brewing stand.
- Wait until it is done brewing - the water bottles have turned into Potions of Weakness.
- Now place the gunpowder where you previously placed the fermented spider eye and the Potions of Weakness where you placed the water bottles.
- Wait for it to brew, and then you will have three Splash Potions of Weakness.

Respawning in the Nether in Minecraft is so much easier if you use a Respawn Anchor. Here's how to build and use one.
PostsHow To Cure Zombie Villagers
As soon as you've made the Splash Potion of Weakness, just put the Golden Apple in your inventory, and you will have everything you need to heal a zombie villager.
If no zombie villagers have spawned near you, you can always lure a zombie to a village. There is a chance that a villager becomes a zombie villager when killed by a zombie.
Here's how you can cure the zombie villager:
- Throw the Splash Potion of Weakness at the zombie villager.
- Feed the villager a Golden Apple - you can do this by approaching the zombie villager and pressing the 'use' button.
- The grey swirls will turn red, and the zombie villager will start shaking.
- Wait a few moments, and the zombie villager will turn into a regular villager.
As a way to express gratitude, the cured villager will also trade at a discounted price.
You can use this method to make your own villages, as this can be a difficult task when there are no villages nearby.
Transporting Villagers is annoying, especially if their home is too far away from your base. So, waiting for a Zombie Villager to spawn and then curing it can sometimes be a more practical way to start the process of creating your own village.
Just make sure you have a bed in a structure nearby, so the villagers can claim it as their home.
