The Most Evil Villains In The Metal Gear Solid Series

Morality is complicated in the Metal Gear Solid series. Not many of the heroes in these games are completely honorable, as there is a layer of grey to all of the protagonists. Some of the villains are the same. For example, The Boss from MGS3 is the main antagonist of the story, but she isn't evil.
Yet, there are some truly evil villains in the series. They may not start or end that way, but, at some point, they behave like truly reprehensible individuals who cause nothing but pain and suffering. These are the most evil ones.
This collection only contains villains from the Metal Gear Solid series, not the Metal Gear titles. Therefore, the likes of Big Boss aren't included.
Ocelot
Various Metal Gear Solid Games
Sometimes, Ocelot can be helpful to you during the games. However, that doesn't mean he's a good person. After all, much of what he does is for selfish reasons. That said, he does also help multiple organizations over the course of the series. He isn't always completely loyal to them, though, since he's often working for various groups at one time.
His employers are rarely good people, so he often has to kill and torture people to properly do the bidding of whoever he works for. He doesn't care, though. Ocelot only really cares about himself and getting the job done, although he does have a soft spot for Big Boss.
Huey Emmerich
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker And Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
Huey is undoubtedly one of the more unlikeable characters in the series. This is because he is a selfish coward who is very willing to betray others to help himself. In The Phantom Pain, he sabotages medical equipment, which causes the vocal cord parasite to mutate and infect multiple members of Diamond Dogs, which directly leads to their deaths. He does so to cozy up to Cipher, aka The Patriots.
Off-screen, he murdered the mother of his child, Strangelove, by locking her inside an AI pod. He did so because she wanted to protect their son from Huey's experiments, as he was using the child as a test subject. Those are just a few of the horrible things he's done in his life. In fact, he's done so many awful things that he's among the most evil characters in a series featuring a bunch of terrorists.
Liquid Snake
Metal Gear Solid And Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
Unlike some of the villains in the series, Liquid Snake has his reasons for being evil. Throughout his life, he was told by his own father, Big Boss, that he was inferior to his twin brother, Solid Snake. This is what makes him so vengeful and determined to prove that he is the strongest member of the family and surpass Big Boss' legacy.
This doesn't justify his terrorist acts, nor the many deaths he causes, especially since he seems to actively enjoy hurting others. Also, he shows little compassion to anyone, including his own allies. He only cares about himself.
Solidus Snake
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty
Solidus Snake spends Metal Gear Solid 2 fighting against the evil organization known as The Patriots. Yet, just because he's fighting villains doesn't mean he isn't one. During MGS2, he does some pretty bad things, from conducting a terrorist attack to killing Olga.
However, the worst thing he does happens before the events of the game. As a teenager, he killed young Raiden's parents and raised him as his own. In the process, he turned the kid into a child soldier along with the other children he trained for combat. Solidius might have been fairly young himself, but it doesn't justify the sick and twisted act, especially as he seems to feel no guilt about it as an adult.
Vamp
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty And Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots
Vamp is never the main antagonist of any game, but he serves as one of the best secondary villains in gaming. This is mainly because he is pretty much pure evil. Throughout the games, he doesn't show an ounce of goodness or kind-heartedness.
He is simply a mass murderer who drinks other people's blood. He even kills poor Emma Emmerich, who has never hurt anyone. Along with killing innocent people, Vamp is also part of a few terrorist plots in the series, so he's an overall horrible person.
Colonel Volgin
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Most of the main characters in MGS3 are morally complicated. Then, there is Colonel Volgin. There isn't anything morally complex about this brute. He is simply an evil man. His ultimate goal is to unify the world under the USSR banner. He doesn't get a chance to do that in MGS3, though.
Yet, he does get to bully, intimidate, beat up, and torture anyone he wants. Examples include Granin, whom he beats to death, and Naked Snake, whom he tortures and almost kills. EVA is perhaps his biggest victim during the game, even if her punishment happens off-screen. According to her, Volgin is a sadist who gets his kicks by hurting her, and it's clear he sexually assaults her, too. The man is a monster.
Zero
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater And Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots
In Metal Gear Solid 3, Zero seems like a nice guy, as he helps Naked Snake complete Operation Snake Eater. By Metal Gear Solid 4, he's barely alive, so he isn't causing much trouble. In between those two events, though, he proves himself to be one of the evilest men in the series. He does so by establishing and running The Patriots.
The organization does countless horrible things to keep the world running as it sees fit. This means the company manipulates, kills, and holds people hostage, as it treats everyone like they're pawns for The Patriots to use. Not all of these things are direct orders from Zero, and a series of AI runs things at one point. However, Zero is responsible for putting everything in place and creating the evil organization in the first place. As a result, he is responsible for plenty of pain and suffering.
Skull Face
Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes And Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
Hideo Kojima is known for giving his characters odd names, and Skull Face is certainly among them. However, it is easy to forget about the silliness of his name when you find out more about this truly horrible man. The guy does so many awful things. The most notable one is helping develop and spread a vocal cord parasite that targets people speaking certain languages. He particularly wants to eliminate the English language and kill many of the people who speak it in the process.
That is pretty bad, but he's also known for kidnapping, killing children, and torturing people for information. Plus, he's not above sexual abuse, as you learn from a tape of him with Chico and Paz. He is the most evil character in the Metal Gear Solid series.
