Summary

  • In Madden 25, the quarterback's accuracy, throw power, and play style define their effectiveness on the field.
  • Different QB styles like pocket passers, play-action specialists, and mobile quarterbacks all have their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Players like Mahomes, Jackson, and Burrow excel in accuracy, throw power, and playmaking abilities, making them top QB choices.

In today's NFL offense (and in Madden 25), the quarterback is the most important player on the field. While you certainly need a supporting cast around the QB or risk wasting some of their prime years, if the quarterback can't get the ball into the hands of playmakers down the field, the defense can stack the box and limit even the best running backs.

With that being said, there are definitely different viable styles of quarterback that can have immense success. Some quarterbacks excel at sticking the pocket, while others extend the play by moving out of the pocket. Some quarterbacks dink and dunk with slants all the way up the field, and others use play action to get receivers open deep.

10 Kirk Cousins

Overall: 84 Throw Power: 88 Deep Accuracy: 94

Kirk Cousins has been a familiar face for a while now, and while he's never quite achieved greatness, he's been good enough to hang around for a long time. He's not an incredible threat outside of the pocket, but he doesn't have to be; he's got great accuracy and good-enough throwing power.

Play Action is where Kirk Cousins can really kill you, with a 98 rating. Get a strong running game going, and when you're looking for the kill shot, call a play-action and get somebody behind the defense. With Cousins' great deep accuracy and play-action combo, this can be a regularly lethal play.

9 Brock Purdy

Overall: 85 Throw Power: 85 Short Accuracy: 95

Brock Purdy is a pretty fresh face in the NFL, but that's not to say he should be taken lightly. He's another quarterback that, while he isn't going to cause many problems outside of the pocket, he's certainly capable of causing problems from inside of it.

Purdy is more accurate in close-range than long-range, and his throw power isn't anything to write home about. His deep accuracy is high, though, so as long as you aren't trying to rifle anything in between defenders downfield, it shouldn't dampen you too much.

8 Jalen Hurts

Overall: 86 Throw Power: 86: Short Accuracy: 91

While neither Cousins nor Purdy are lethal outside of the pocket, Jalen Hurts most certainly is. Inside or outside of the pocket, hurts can cause some real headaches, and playing against him is going to require regular spying to try and limit his movement.

Inside the pocket, Hurts still has absolutely great accuracy and great throw under pressure, but just average throw power. The ball is generally going to get where you're hoping, even with defenders in his face. If you can get him outside of the pocket to extend some plays, it's going to open up your options tremendously.

7 Justin Herbert

Overall: 87 Throw Power: 96 Short Accuracy: 92

Justin Herbert has a cannon for an arm, and that cannon can hit with some pretty good accuracy. He's also capable of getting outside the pocket for more options and is able to throw pretty accurately while still on the run.

His accuracy is pretty consistent across the board. He is best at close range but does not drop off too much deeper out. With his arm strength, he can split defenders down the field better than a lot of other QBs.

6 Tua Tagovailoa

Overall: 88 Throw Power: 87 Short Accuracy: 96

With some extremely good accuracy, and slightly above-average speed, Tua Tagovailoa is a QB that comes with options. While he might not be the best in the business at anything, he's capable of doing pretty much everything.

His accuracy doesn't dip below 90 at any range, and while he doesn't have exceptional speed, it is good enough to make some plays out of the pocket. He's also young enough to have some real room to grow on top of his already really strong foundation.

5 Dak Prescott

Overall: 90 Throw Power: 90 Short Accuracy: 94

Dak Prescott is another quarterback who's been good for a long time but has never quite been capable of achieving the ultimate prize. That said, he does not have any real weak spot, more or less rated like a slightly better Tagovailoa.

The only dip in Dak's stats is his medium accuracy, and even that only dips to 87, which is still above average. He's capable of comfortably running many different offensive styles and playbooks and surrounded by some playmakers, could take you far.

4 Josh Allen

Overall: 92 Throw Power: 99 Short Accuracy: 92

Josh Allen might just have a cybernetically strengthened arm. His throwing power is a maxed-out 99, meaning you can fit that ball into just about as tight a window as you can imagine. His accuracy might be a little lower than other QBs with similar rating, but that doesn't mean it's bad by any stretch.

He also has exceptional speed, and with his size, is capable of falling forward for a couple of extra yards. Allen is the kind of QB you can build a team around for a long time to come, and he should easily stay healthy with his 99 injury rating.

3 Joe Burrow

Overall: 93 Throw Power: 87 Short Accuracy: 99

Joe Burrow is the QB position simplified. He doesn't have incredible arm strength. He's not particularly fast. Joe Burrow just throws the ball with such accuracy that the completion is more or less a sure bet.

There's something to be said for consistency, especially at the QB position. A receiver messing up hurts, sure. A bad run from a RB can waste a down. But when a QB messes up, it can be an easy turnover. Joe Burrow's stats just make messing up so unlikely that he's a great QB option.

2 Lamar Jackson

Overall: 98 Throw Power: 93 Short Accuracy: 97

Lamar Jackson struggled with his throwing when he entered the league, but his QB abilities have improved dramatically enough to take him to the second-best QB in the league. He's physically unstoppable, to boot, making for a QB who can make plays out of nothing.

The only mark against Jackson's stats is his deep accuracy, only at 84. Aside from that, he should be a consistent playmaking machine, keeping the team moving downfield in situations where it should be impossible.

1 Patrick Mahomes

Overall: 99 Throw Power: 97 Short Accuracy: 98

There's a reason Patrick Mahomes is rated as a 99 overall. He is, without a doubt, the best QB playing in the league right now. With short and medium accuracy, awareness, and throw power all well over 90, he does not have a weakness.

His 87 speed and 98 throw on the run rating mean he can move out of the pocket and make life difficult for the secondary. Actually, Mahomes is just going to be a headache for the entire defense, especially with the loaded roster around him.
