One week in, Mordhau has achieved 500,000 sales and 60,000 concurrent players on Steam. People love clobbering each other with assorted medieval weaponry in a fun, skillful environment. Who knew!

Along with the note on strong initial sales, Triternion also touched on other asked-about topics among Mordhau players. The team is working through early performance woes and setting up more servers to assist matchmaking. “All things considered, the majority of launch issues have been resolved,” according to the studio. Players who missed out on their hard-earned gold and XP due to faulty unlocks will be compensated in the next patch. The ghost bug and map exploits are also on the immediate agenda.

And because you can never have enough maps, they’re on the to-do list too. Triternion mentioned two maps by name – Castello and Feitoria – and showed off work-in-progress screens of the latter.

“On top of that we will start looking into Ranked/Competitive modes, starting with duels,” the developer continued. “However we cannot give an exact time frame on when you can expect these updates to be rolled out yet. We are terrible when it comes to estimating things, I’m sure our alpha players can attest to that. Additionally we will keep adding new armor pieces and weapon skins here and there, as well as some new character customization options. Goals further down the line would be to release Modding Tools, as a lot of you seem to be very eager to create some custom content.”

Folks seem to dig Mordhau well enough as is – the footage above captures the jovial mayhem – but this game will really come into its own and thrive long-term with proper mod support. I mean, just picture your cinematic battle of choice rebuilt for this first-person melee format. It’s meant to be.
