Hotel ballroom collapses, forces location change

[Update: The show must go on! Apex is relocating to the Garden State Convention Center. However, all events planned for today have been cancelled.]

Authorities have put Apex 2015 on hold over concerns about the venue’s structural integrity.

The fighting game tournament, which is scheduled to take place this weekend in Secaucus, New Jersey, is currently in limbo after fire marshals deemed the Clarion Hotel unsafe.

The building was evacuated early this morning over a triggered alarm. Upon arriving at the scene, officials discovered a partial collapse in one of the hotel’s ballrooms likely brought on by the winter storms pelting the region. The Apex staff is presently attempting to salvage the event, though all official activities have been suspended.

The tournament, which is largely focused on Super Smash Bros., is sponsored by Nintendo.
