Overview of Patch 11.1 Features

  • World of Warcraft’s Patch 11.1 introduces thrilling Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. and Skyrocket races utilizing Goblin jetpacks.
  • The Undermine zone restricts flying, opting for customizable cars and jetpacks for traversal.
  • Competitors will face unique challenges involving ring collection and varying levels of race difficulty in the new Skyrocket events.

World of Warcraft is set to elevate the racing experience with Patch 11.1, introducing two exhilarating race formats: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races, featuring Goblin jetpacks. These fresh additions will take the place of Skyriding races within the Undermine zone, which is part of the upcoming major content update titled The War Within.

This patch, aptly named Undermined, transports players to the bustling, subterranean city of Undermine, the Goblin capital. Despite its expansive environment, players won’t be able to fly in this zone. Instead, they will navigate using a D.R.I.V.E. system—an innovative, customizable vehicle that promises a faster experience compared to traditional Skyriding. The introduction of Breakneck races will allow players to maximize the unique features of this new driving system.

Alongside D.R.I.V.E. races, the update features Skyrocket races, which break away from conventional flying. Here, players will navigate the skies using Goblin jetpacks in a new racing format. This innovative movement style offers a distinctive balance between existing flying mechanics; players cannot hover indefinitely but maintain speed and altitude as they race. Early previews from WoW content creator MrGM, shared from the Public Test Realm, reveal that racers can enhance their velocity by collecting rings. However, increased speed compromises their maneuverability, further intensifying the challenges faced during Skyrocket races.

With the absence of Skyriding in Undermine, players can anticipate a fresh set of challenges in the new races. Both the Breakneck and Skyrocket events will feature achievements based on performance, allowing adventurers to strive for Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals. Additionally, reverse versions of all Skyrocket and D.R.I.V.E. races are available, although they may not include the advanced or challenge variations some Skyriding races featured.

Early feedback on the Skyrocket races has been mixed. While enthusiasm exists for the new features, some players are concerned about the control and responsiveness of flying mechanics compared to the existing Skyriding system. Fortunately, the ongoing development of Patch 11.1 leaves room for potential adjustments and enhancements before its expected launch in February.
