Why the Higher Price of The Legend of Zelda Sidon Amiibo Is Justified

Is the New Sidon amiibo Worth the Price Increase?

As an avid collector, I set a personal cap of $20 for each amiibo, but I was taken aback by the escalating prices for these popular Nintendo figurines. After picking up the Noah and Mio set from Xenoblade Chronicles 3, I paused my collection due to the perceived value versus cost. However, my love for Sidon from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom ultimately led to a purchase, prompting reconsideration of whether the enhanced design justifies the steeper price tag.

The Rising Cost of Amiibo

The Sidon amiibo retails for $29.99, positioning it at least $10 above previous amiibo prices, and even higher—$15 more—when considering the classic designs priced at $14.99. This price hike is accompanied by design enhancements that are immediately noticeable, even while the figure is still in its packaging. Sidon boasts a few extra centimeters in height, a more stable stance on the base, and an array of intricate plastic details, especially on his crown.

Impressive Detail and Craftsmanship

Upon unboxing, the craftsmanship of Sidon’s amiibo surpassed many earlier figures in terms of paint quality and detail. Notable features include the intricate spots on his tail, the webbing between his toes, vivid colors of his fins, detailed fingernails, and the sparkling silver accents on his crown, belt, necklace, and gloves. When placed next to his sister, Mipha, the sophistication of Sidon’s paint job becomes apparent, particularly in how it highlights his skin and clothing.

In contrast, Sidon’s amiibo stands out dramatically when assessed beside a Zelda amiibo from Breath of the Wild. While Zelda’s barrette and gold shirt accents are striking, her figure lacks definition; the gloves and boots appear flat, the eye detailing is insufficient, and her pose feels rather static. Sidon, with his dynamic posture and richer detailing, brings an added visual interest, even if his aquatic features somewhat obscure his eyes.

Minor Drawbacks and Final Thoughts

One feature that leaves something to be desired is Sidon’s trident. While beautifully crafted, the product’s packaging caused it to arrive slightly bent. Although I hoped that displaying it on a shelf would rectify this, it appears that some intervention will be required to straighten it out fully.

Despite this minor flaw, the Sidon amiibo represents significant advancement in design, leading me to ponder whether investing in newer amiibo models could be worthwhile. This experience has opened my eyes to the possibility of evaluating purchases on an individual basis going forward.

The Sidon amiibo from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom is now available to collectors and fans alike.
