Upcoming Ghost Recon Game Set for Fall 2026

A recent report from Insider-Gaming has revealed that the next entry in the Ghost Recon franchise is scheduled for release in the fall of 2026. The game, currently referred to by its codename Ovr, is expected to enter an internal alpha testing phase later this year, likely in the fall of 2025.

Development Insights and Market Context

The decision to initiate alpha testing for this new Ghost Recon title follows Ubisoft’s announcement regarding its Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake, which is slated for a March 2026 release. This shift in scheduling appears to be part of a broader strategy, as several key titles from Ubisoft have experienced delays.

Reflection on the Series’ Recent History

The last mainline game, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, released in 2019, has been described as a significant low point for the franchise. Following its launch, Ubisoft halted all further content development for Breakpoint to focus on the future of the series. Additionally, the company canceled an anticipated Ghost Recon game titled Frontline shortly after ceasing support for Breakpoint.

Shifts in Expectations

Previously, industry speculation pointed to a possible release for the next Ghost Recon title in 2025, which now seems unlikely. It is anticipated that any substantial news regarding the new installment will not surface until 2026, especially given that Ubisoft’s plans for 2025 appear limited.

Ubisoft’s Upcoming Lineup

As of now, the only Ubisoft games expected in 2025 include titles such as Anno 117: Pax Romana, The Rogue Prince of Persia, and a new early access title, Morbid Metal, set to launch this August. During the recent Summer Game Fest, Ubisoft showcased these titles, but it has also announced that it will not host a Ubisoft Forward event in 2025. Furthermore, the company is undergoing internal restructuring, influenced by its partnership with Tencent.

Looking Ahead

While Ubisoft achieved a notable success earlier this year with the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which was much needed after prior setbacks, the pressure is mounting. The disappointing performance in 2024 has raised expectations for every title in Ubisoft’s 2026 portfolio, including the upcoming Ghost Recon game. As the company navigates these challenges, fans will be eagerly awaiting more information on this new chapter in the Ghost Recon series.
