Unlocking Promo A Card 008 in Pokémon TCG Pocket: A Complete Guide

Since the launch of the Pokémon TCG Pocket, the absence of Promo A Card number 008 has puzzled many players. All Promo A Cards from 001 to 033 have been made accessible through various events, with card 008 being a notable outlier. This particular card represents a revamped version of the renowned Pokédex item card, now ready for use in battles.
While several cards have become unavailable, either due to the conclusion of their respective events or being tied to premium passes, the good news is that Promo A Card 008 is now easily attainable. This launch coincides with an exciting period for Pokémon TCG Pocket players, who can expect the official introduction of trading this month, alongside hints of a new pack expansion, A2.
How to Claim Promo A Card 008
Claiming the Latest Card
On January 20, 2025, players logging into the game will receive a notification stating, “Thank you for playing the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket! To celebrate the milestone of 40 billion cards acquired globally, we’re gifting you a promo card!”After reviewing this message in the News tab, players can navigate to the Gifts tab in the top-right corner of the home screen to claim their reward.
Once claimed, the Promo A Card will be added to your My Cards page in Pokémon TCG Pocket. This card will be available for an extended period, ensuring that players won’t miss out. You can claim it between January 20 and April 30, 2025, via the Gifts tab.
Using Promo A Card 008 in Battles
Is the Card Worth Using?
Visually, the Promo A Card 008 retains the same function as the standard Pokédex card found within Pokémon TCG Pocket, differing only in appearance. This promotional version delights with iconic Generation One Pokémon such as Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and Pikachu encircling a Pokédex.
However, it’s important to note that the card’s utility in battles—whether against real-life opponents in Versus mode or AI in Solo mode—is somewhat limited. It allows players to peek at the top three cards of their deck, providing some strategic advantage by revealing potential draws. Yet, among the available Supporter and Item cards, it doesn’t compare well to stronger options like Sabrina or Professor’s Research.
Despite its moderate effectiveness in typical battle scenarios, Promo A Card 008 may find a niche in specialized control decks. Regardless of its performance in gameplay, having the opportunity to add Promo A Card 008 to one’s collection is a delightful surprise that Pokémon TCG Pocket players can appreciate.
