In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, even the most powerful magical beings have become unsettled and frightened due to the Upheaval. Link must set forth on a quest to restore the Great Fairy Fountains across Hyrule, a challenge well within his capabilities.

Understanding the Role of Great Fairy Fountains in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Within the game, the Great Fairy enhances the defensive attributes of Link’s apparel. By exchanging rare materials—often acquired from fallen foes—Link can boost the defense ratings of his gear. This upgrade is essential as it significantly decreases the damage taken in battles, enabling him to confront tougher adversaries in more perilous zones.

If you often find yourself being defeated in a single blow, it is imperative to unlock the four Great Fairy Fountains and enhance your most powerful outfits.

As you improve a piece of clothing, the required materials for continued upgrades become increasingly rare. Additionally, wearing a complete set that has been upgraded twice can provide bonus effects.

How to Unlock the Great Fairy Fountains in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Great Fairies have retreated into their enchanted ponds after the upheaval, emerging only when Link revives their appreciation for the world’s beauty through music. There are four distinct Great Fairies to uncover within Hyrule, each residing at different stables throughout the kingdom.

Visit locations like the Woodland Stable (northeast), Snowfield Stable (northwest), Dueling Peaks Stable (southeast), and Outskirt Stable (southwest of Central Hyrule) to find them. For an efficient overview, utilize the interactive map provided below:

To encourage each Great Fairy to emerge, Link must play specific tunes using designated musical instruments. Unlocking each Great Fairy allows for further enhancements to Link’s clothing, with potential power boosts reaching up to four stages.

Unlocking Great Fairy Tera with a Violin

To obtain a Violin for Great Fairy Tera near Woodland Stable, head to the Lucky Clover Gazette adjacent to Rito Village. Volunteer to gather stories for the newspaper, then return to Woodland Stable and converse with Penn to initiate the Serenade of the Great Fairy quest. This quest involves repairing a cart and transporting musicians to Tera’s pond. Following a cutscene, you can request her to strengthen your gear.

This quest is essential as it enables the musicians to travel to various locations afterwards.

Unlocking Great Fairy Kaysa with a Flute

To find the Flute for Great Fairy Kaysa, go to Outskirt Stable and converse with the musicians present. They will inform you that their flautist is currently at Highland Stable. Deliver some Sunset Fireflies to the flautist as a gesture of goodwill. If needed, you can locate these fireflies in the forest to the north. Afterwards, return to Outskirt Stable and assist in taking the musicians to Kaysa.

Unlocking Great Fairy Cotera with a Drum

To unlock Great Fairy Cotera, make your way to Dueling Peaks Stable and engage with the musicians. They will mention that their drummer is nearby, located in Kakariko Village. You’ll need to offer him some courser honey, which can typically be found in the trees around East Hill.

Unlocking Great Fairy Mija with a Horn

To retrieve the horn needed to unlock Great Fairy Mija, travel to the Snowfield Stable near Hebra. Speak to the musicians who will guide you to the missing horn player’s location. After rescuing him by attaching materials to his cart, return to the Snowfield Stable and transport him to Mija’s pond.

For additional gameplay insights in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, ensure Link is equipped with ample armor to make the most of the Great Fairy Fountains for upgrades. The Fierce Deity armor set is particularly favored for its visual appeal, while the Soldier’s armor is a practical choice for solid defense. Alternatively, consider the Climbing Gear and Glide armor for enhanced mobility across Hyrule.
