Ultimate Guide to Dragon Kart in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza

Explore the vibrant beaches and energetic streets of Honolulu in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii, where Captain Majima engages in an array of entertaining minigames and quirky side stories. Among the highlights of this latest installment is the exciting Dragon Kart racing minigame, which elevates the fun factor with a comical narrative, adrenaline-pumping competitions, and enticing rewards to unlock, including two new recruitable crew members.
Dragon Kart features three unique Grand Prix events and a comprehensive questline, combined with a Duel mode reminiscent of Mario Kart’s Battle Mode, where players employ power-ups to outlast their rivals in thrilling free-for-all matchups.
Location and Overview
The Dragon Kart arena is set in the Harbor Park region of Honolulu, directly opposite the Ounabara Vocational School situated on Harbor Street, within the scenic Anaconda Harbor Park. Here, players can interact with Ran, a familiar NPC from both Yakuza: Like A Dragon and Like a Dragon Gaiden. Ran is pivotal to the minigame’s narratives and offers rewards in exchange for points accumulated through various activities.
If you’ve enjoyed other kart racing games, you’ll likely find Dragon Kart accessible; however, it does present distinct features that differentiate it from typical racing experiences:
- Every kart is equipped with a health bar that, when depleted to zero, results in a crash, causing significant delays.
- Dragon Rings are scattered throughout the track, serving to replenish health and accumulate points.
- Despite your driving skills, reclaiming item pickups and navigating booster tracks are crucial for success.
Dragon Kart Modes: Grand Prix
The Grand Prix mode presents a series of challenges with a straightforward progression path, where players race against nine competitors on various tracks, starting with the Resort Cup.
Upon clinching victory in the Resort Cup, players can unlock access to the Urban Cup, followed by the increasingly complex Festival Cup. To consistently secure first place, it’s wise to prioritize booster rails, as even a slight brush can yield significant speed enhancements.
Dragon Kart Modes: Duel
Initially, Duel mode is marked as “???”until you achieve victory in the Resort Cup and embark on the Dragon Kart narrative.
Unlike standard races, Duels involve a series of competitors fighting to be the last remaining racer using unlimited machine gun ammo and strategically placed power-ups on a compact arena. Staying mobile is vital—maintaining circular movement enables power-up collection and avoids elimination.
Dragon Kart Modes: Time Attack
This mode allows solitary racing endeavors, encouraging players to set personal bests during timed courses.Time Attack is often overlooked, serving primarily for practice and competitive bragging rights.
Power-Ups
As you navigate the track, power-up boxes grant you an advantage over your competitors. Key power-ups include:
- Gatling Gun: Unleash a barrage of 20 bullets ahead. Aiming required.
- Rocket Launcher: Inflicts moderate damage to the nearest racer with good tracking.
- Nitro Boost: Provides a speed boost.
- Satellite Laser: Calls down a damaging laser that slows all opponents. Rare pick-up.
- Barrier Coating: Grants a temporary shield against all harm.
- Ring Box: Instantly adds 10 coins; can also restore health.
Anticipate rival racers to diminish your health with machine gun rounds. Utilizing the Shield or gathering Dragon Rings can help maintain your vitality during races.
How to Unlock New Dragon Karts
You can manage your available Karts from the Kart Setting tab in the main menu, starting with three initial options: Lost Rider, Crimson Fire, and Navy Fang. Other karts unlock via participating in Dragon Kart duels and completing substories, which is essential for acquiring the top-tier Kart.

Additionally, it has a unique ability to auto-boost at the race start if the acceleration button is held during the countdown.
How to Complete Substories
Upon finishing the “Dragon Kart in Paradise” substory and completing all three tournaments and duels, you can dive into The Fastest in Hawaii substory, featuring a race against Ran, who proudly declares herself the Dragon Girl eager to reclaim her racing glory.
In Ran’s Elimination Duel, expect a standard race on the Harbor Sunset Tour track, where you’ll face off in a one-on-one challenge. Beware of her speed and tenacity on the track.
How to Beat Ran
Ran distinguishes herself as a quick and aggressive competitor, executing tight turns and accurately spawning machine gun fire whenever you’re in her line of sight. Furthermore, her substantial health bar means that crashing into her is not an option.
This Duel mode enforces strict rules regarding crashing; being hit results in immediate defeat, so it’s crucial to dodge her attacks.
Instead, prioritize speed, maintaining distance after taking the lead, as her bullets can quickly diminish your health. Collecting Nitro Boosts and utilizing booster rails will be vital in increasing your lead, alongside snagging Dragon Rings for both health restoration and extra scoring.
Once you defeat Ran, a celebratory event will take place, crowning you as Hawaii’s fastest racer. However, the Robo Michio Army will abruptly interrupt, challenging you to an Elimination Duel in the follow-up quest “The Path to Speed.”
How to Beat Robo Michio Army
While facing the Robo Michio Army, you’ll discover they’re not all ganging up on you; the Duel still follows free-for-all dynamics.
Your driving precision and power-up management will be crucial in this encounter. Three distinct items—Rocket Launcher, Satellite Laser, and Barrier Coating—are available throughout the map.
A wise strategy involves circling the arena to gather Barrier Coating, offering temporary invincibility until remaining Michio bots eliminate each other. You can then engage the remaining bots using the Satellite Laser for effective takedowns.
Upon conquering the Robo Michio Army and completing “The Path to Speed”substory, you will secure the game’s top kart and complete the majority of what Dragon Kart offers.
