While defeating these formidable foes enhances your Hunter Rank and supplies you with valuable materials for crafting weapons and armor, a different, equally engaging aspect of the game involves capturing monsters. This alternative approach can often yield unique rewards and materials, making capturing a crucial part of your Monster Hunter adventure.

The Advantages of Capturing Monsters

Capturing monsters offers several significant benefits. Not only is it a common quest requirement following the main storyline, but it also tends to be a more efficient strategy compared to outright slaying. Furthermore, players may acquire a range of rare materials through successful captures, which can be pivotal for progression.

Essential Gear for Capturing Monsters

Preparation is key when attempting to capture a monster in Monster Hunter Wilds. Before the hunt, ensure you have at least one Pitfall Trap, Shock Trap, and several Tranquilizer Bombs in your inventory.

These items can be crafted at your camp’s Tent, but first, you will need to purchase Trap Tools from the Provisions Stockpile located at any Base Camp. This initial step is crucial for successfully creating your traps.

Identifying Monster Weaknesses

Prior to your capture attempt, consult the Field Guide to gain insights on the monster you intend to hunt. This guide will provide valuable information about effective traps and elemental vulnerabilities. It’s essential to note that not every trap will work on all monsters. For instance, while the Jin Dahaad is immune to Pitfall Traps, it can be effectively captured using Shock Traps.

Executing the Capture

With your preparations complete and the necessary items in your pouch, it’s time to commence your hunt. Engage with the monster until you observe signs of weakness, such as limping or erratic flight patterns if it’s a flying creature.

Once the monster exhibits these signs, set up your chosen trap nearby and lure the creature into it. If the monster is incapacitated, positioning the trap directly beneath it will ensure it becomes trapped once it regains consciousness.

Finishing the Capture

After successfully ensnaring the monster, utilize your Tranquilizer Bombs quickly. Typically, deploying one or two will effectively sedate the creature, resulting in a successful capture. Do keep in mind that unlike slaying, capturing does not allow you to harvest parts from the defeated monster at the end of the hunt; however, you will still receive a variety of materials and unique rewards.
