Ubisoft Confirms New Rayman Game in Development Following Remake Rumors

Exciting news for fans of the Rayman series: the beloved franchise may be making a comeback, albeit through an unconventional announcement. Following speculation about the dismantling of the team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown at Ubisoft Montpellier due to a rejected sequel, Ubisoft initially confirmed the restructuring, stating that employees were being “redistributed to different projects.”Soon after, new information emerged, revealing that the studio’s talent has been divided among three ongoing projects, one of which reportedly involves a Rayman remake.

As this buzz gained traction, Ubisoft responded with further clarifying statements. In a comment to Eurogamer, the French gaming giant acknowledged that a Rayman project is in development at both Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan, although it remains in the nascent phase:

“We are excited to confirm that Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan have recently begun an exploration phase focused on the Rayman franchise. The project is still very much in its infancy, and additional information will be shared in the future.”

Furthermore, Ubisoft has revealed the involvement of Michel Ancel, the original creator of Rayman, who is serving as a consultant to maintain continuity within the franchise’s universe. Ancel departed from Ubisoft in 2020 after contributing to Beyond Good and Evil 2.

If this new venture progresses as anticipated and ultimately launches, it will mark the first major Rayman title since Rayman Legends, which debuted over ten years ago. Whether this will be a remake of the iconic 1995 Rayman or a brand-new platform adventure remains uncertain.

Additionally, the initial report from Insider-Gaming noted that some team members from Ubisoft Montpellier were reassigned to an undisclosed Ghost Recon title and the long-anticipated Beyond Good and Evil 2. Ubisoft has yet to issue comments on these specific claims.
