Tequila Works Faces Closure and Asset Auction
Following the cancellation of a new game and subsequent layoffs in October 2024, Spanish game developer Tequila Works found itself facing insolvency and ultimately shutting down operations about a month later. In a recent update, the Spanish auction platform Escrapalia has released details regarding the auction of Tequila Works’ brand and all of its intellectual properties.
Auction Overview
The auction features a collection of assets organized into nine distinct lots, categorized based on their nature and current development stage. The offerings include:
- Published Games with Established IP:

- Rime
- CULT
- The Invisible Hours
- Games Under Development (Vertical Slice Available):

The successful bidder will receive assets at their own risk and under the specific contractual conditions outlined in each lot’s details. Comprehensive technical, legal, and commercial documents will be provided through a digital data room, accessible only after signing non-disclosure agreements (NDAs).
Current Bidding Trends
The bidding process is already underway, with notable figures such as RiME and GYLT each reaching €15, 500 after 150 bids. The auction is set to continue until May 14. Among the titles put up for auction, RiME stands out as the most highly regarded game from Tequila Works, having earned critical acclaim during the studio’s 15-year tenure in the gaming industry.
Why RiME Is a Notable Title
RiME marries artistic storytelling with emotional depth, offering an experience that few players are likely to forget. This adventure game is designed to be introspective, focusing on themes of mystery and self-discovery. It is important to note that RiME may not cater to everyone’s gaming preferences; those seeking constant action and combat may find it lacking.
Initially beleaguered by a prolonged development timeline, many anticipated RiME to be a failure. However, Tequila Works managed to turn that perception around, showcasing that perseverance can yield remarkable results. With its unique narrative, intricate puzzles, and stunning visual presentation, RiME stands as a worthy competitor to the renowned works of Team ICO.
