Exciting News: Dying Light Retouched Update Launching Soon

Techland is set to release the highly anticipated Dying Light: Retouched update this June 26, 2025. This significant update, free for all current owners of the game, promises to enhance the original Dying Light experience across all available platforms.

A Milestone Celebration for a Classic Game

Since its announcement earlier this year, the Retouched update has generated considerable excitement among fans. However, Techland has emphasized that this is not a remaster, but rather a collection of enhancements crafted to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the game’s initial release.

Insights from Techland Leaders

Tymon Smektała, the franchise director of Dying Light, stated, “This update is about squeezing out even more from the Dying Light you already love. It’s not a complete overhaul or a remaster.”His comments underscore Techland’s intention to preserve the core experience of the original game while modernizing various elements.

Grzegorz Świstowski, Technical Game Director at Techland, added insight into the development process: “Over the past few years, we have added and customized many features and learned how to maximize the existing technology. One day, someone started applying these learnings to old assets, and it clicked that we could implement this across the entire game.”

Visual and Audio Enhancements

The Retouched update focuses on delivering a range of visual improvements that, while derived from technology of a previous console generation, significantly enrich the gameplay experience. Players will observe enhanced textures on details such as cement floors and wooden walls. According to Smektała, many of these upgrades were applied individually, reflecting a higher quality than expected in a decade-old title.

Additionally, audio features are receiving a major boost. Original composer Paweł Blaszczak is returning to remaster the entire soundtrack, integrating new tracks that complement the original score, thereby enhancing the atmospheric soundscape of the game.

Platform Availability and Performance Expectations

This free update is available for all players who already own the original game, including users on older consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One. However, Smektała notes that “The level of changes may vary by platform.”Therefore, players should manage their expectations; for instance, the graphics on the PS4 may not match the enhancements seen on the PS5.

Final Thoughts

As the release date approaches, the Dying Light community eagerly anticipates these substantial enhancements. Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the game, the Retouched update promises a revitalized experience worth celebrating.
