Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is packed with quests, providing players with an engaging adventure that can span nearly 100 hours. Among these numerous tasks, some side quests lack waypoint guidance, making navigation somewhat challenging. One such quest is known as “The Age of Excuse, ”which presents players with the task of curing an NPC afflicted by a mysterious curse, but offers minimal directions on how to proceed.

This guide is designed to help you navigate and successfully complete The Age of Excuse quest in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon.

Initiating the Age of Excuse Quest

To commence the Age of Excuse quest, start by locating Berach, who is situated in the first region of Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon.

Look for Berach positioned beneath a sizable bridge, where he conveys signs of distress and impending doom. Concerned that he might be cursed, he seeks your aid.Speak to him and offer your support to officially trigger the Age of Excuse quest.

Locating the Cure for Berach

Upon agreeing to assist Berach, players should seek guidance from Jann Heber, who resides in the main town of Horns of the South. He will share an important hint regarding Druids and their expertise in cures, prompting you to find one.

Druid Drest is an excellent candidate to provide the needed assistance. He can be found just outside the main town of Horns of the South. Upon exiting the town, take a right down to the beach and follow the shoreline westward until you discover a cave housing Druid Drest.

Engage Druid Drest in conversation about the curse. Before he agrees to help, you must satisfy his hunger with some food. Any type of food item will suffice, so select one that offers minimal healing benefits.

Continue your inquiries about the curse until he reveals crucial information. Druid Drest will clarify that there is no actual curse at play; rather, Berach is engulfed in paranoia. The actual task, then, is to alleviate his paranoia using a Disgusting Health Potion.

Crafting the Disgusting Health Potion

The Disgusting Health Potion requires the following ingredients: 2 Spirit, 5 Sage, and 1 Grindylow Tooth. This potion can be concocted at any Alchemist’s table.

Players can acquire Spirit by looting various boxes scattered throughout the game world, while Sage can be purchased directly from Jann Heber. To secure Grindylow Teeth, you will need to defeat Grindylows, the troll-like enemies wielding bone clubs in the Horns of the South region.

Keep in mind that Grindylow Teeth are a rare drop. It may take several encounters—up to around ten Grindylows—before a tooth finally drops for you.

Finalizing the Age of Excuse Quest

Once you have gathered all required ingredients, craft the Disgusting Health Potion and return to Berach underneath the bridge where you initially found him.

When you speak to Berach, you will have the choice to either reveal the truth—that there is no disease—or to maintain the facade of his “sickness.”It is advisable to lie, as telling the truth may lead to an encounter where you are forced to kill him, which would result in the quest failing.

If you choose to support Berach’s belief in his disease, he will be convinced that the Disgusting Health Potion has resolved his issues, rewarding you for your efforts. The successful completion of the quest grants 900 XP and a Rare Soul Stone.
