Square Enix Unveils Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles

The recent June 2025 State of Play presentation by Square Enix officially introduced the much-anticipated remaster, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. Fans of the franchise can look forward to its launch on September 30, 2025.

What to Expect from the Remaster

This remastered edition will feature two distinct versions of the beloved classic. The Enhanced Version will boast modern quality-of-life improvements and full voice acting, enriching the gameplay experience. In contrast, the Classic Version aims to stay true to the original gameplay, providing a nostalgic experience reminiscent of the game’s 1997 PlayStation debut. The remaster is being developed by Square Enix’s Creative Studio III, as highlighted in the recently released trailer.

The original Final Fantasy Tactics debuted on the PlayStation back in 1997, following the journey of Ramza Beoulve, a noble knight cadet caught in the tumult of The Lion War. A notable port was released in 2007 for the PSP, branded as Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, which introduced several enhancements.

Recent Trends in Remasters

In recent years, Square Enix has revitalized several classic titles, with the latest being Tactics Ogre: Reborn, which launched on November 11, 2022, available for platforms including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
