Recently, Hazelight Studios released an exciting Split Fiction trailer, providing fans with a closer look at the game’s dynamic co-op mechanics. The trailer not only showcases the game’s frantic gameplay but also offers a glimpse of its unique environments, including a stunning cyberpunk cityscape.

Announced during The Game Awards in December 2024, Split Fiction marks the third title from Hazelight Studios, the creators of critically acclaimed games such as A Way Out and It Takes Two. Maintaining the studio’s signature style, this upcoming action-adventure game is crafted as a cooperative experience intended for two players.

Just six weeks after its initial announcement, a new gameplay trailer was unveiled on January 27, showcasing previously disclosed details. This latest video reveals the captivating narrative where writers Mio and Zoe find themselves ensnared in their own fictional realms. The trailer focuses on a storyline within Mio’s sci-fi adventure set in an expansive cyberpunk metropolis.

Immense Gameplay Variety in Split Fiction

In the newly released trailer, director Josef Fares elaborates on Hazelight’s commitment to delivering diverse gameplay experiences. He articulates the studio’s goal of keeping players engaged by presenting a fluid combination of environments, characters, and gameplay mechanics. Throughout the trailer, viewers see Mio and Zoe engaging in an extraordinary range of activities, including wall-running, biking, weightlessness in outer space, utilizing grappling hooks, battling a colossal robot, diving, water-skiing, befriending a fairy, riding a sand creature reminiscent of Dune, and even transforming into various fantastical entities.

Exploring Side Quests in Split Fiction

The January trailer also introduced the concept of side quests, creatively dubbed “stories” by Hazelight. These optional adventures promise to dive deeper into the backstories of Zoe and Mio, enhancing players’ understanding of their challenges. Utilizing a unique world-hopping mechanic akin to the main narrative, these side quests will alternate between various gameplay styles, including platforming, combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving, enriching the overall gaming experience.

Split Fiction is set to launch both digitally and physically on March 6, targeting platforms such as PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC with a retail price of $49.99. Leveraging Hazelight’s Friend’s Pass system, the game will allow players to enjoy online co-op with a single copy, alongside accommodating local split-screen gameplay reminiscent of previous titles like It Takes Two and A Way Out.
