Last month, Samsung unveiled its much-anticipated Galaxy S25 lineup, which retains a familiar design but comes with significant upgrades under the hood. The new series offers enhanced computational and graphical capabilities, particularly benefiting mobile gaming enthusiasts. A recent performance test comparing the Galaxy S25 Ultra with the iPhone 16 Pro Max sheds light on their prowess in popular games like Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves.

iPhone 16 Pro Max Outscores Galaxy S25 Ultra in Genshin Impact

With an impressive average frame rate of 95 FPS, the iPhone 16 Pro Max decisively outperforms the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which averages only 60 FPS. Both devices leverage their powerful processors while running a plethora of high-performance games available on the App Store and Play Store. A recent comparison conducted by Dame Tech on YouTube showcases the gaming capabilities of these flagship models, focusing specifically on frame rates, performance throttling, and power consumption.

Historically, the iPhone has held the title for best gaming performance. Notably, despite the Galaxy S25 Ultra offering exclusive high-resolution settings, the iPhone 16 Pro Max delivers superior in-game resolution. Additionally, although the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip theoretically shows better performance markers, the practical experiences seen in both Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves reveal differing results.

The comparison video indicates that with maximum settings enabled, the Galaxy S25 Ultra achieves a commendable 59.2 FPS in Wuthering Waves, showcasing smooth gameplay without noticeable stuttering. This performance suggests that the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip is quite competitive, as it approaches the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s score of 59 FPS.

However, power consumption presents a contrasting picture. The Galaxy S25 Ultra draws up to 7.2 Watts of power, compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s 5.4 Watts. Moreover, the iPhone operates at a higher resolution of 1705 x 786, contributing to its efficient performance. Interestingly, the iPhone 16 Pro Max maintains comparable frame rates while operating at temperatures over 10 degrees cooler than the Galaxy S25 Ultra, suggesting that the A18 Pro chip effectively manages heat while performing demanding tasks.

When it comes to Genshin Impact, the iPhone 16 Pro Max dominates the Galaxy S25 Ultra, achieving an average of 95.2 FPS and occasionally spiking to 120 FPS under optimal conditions. In contrast, the Galaxy S25 Ultra appears to be limited to a steady 60 FPS—likely a frame rate cap set by the game’s developers—and operates at a higher temperature.

Despite the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s superior performance, Samsung has successfully launched a competitive gaming device in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This advancement may solidify its position as one of the top Android gaming smartphones available. We’ll continue to monitor and share insights on the capabilities and performance of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, so stay tuned for updates.
