Smite 2 marks an exciting new phase for this popular third-person action MOBA, with its free-to-play open beta commencing on January 14, 2025. As the game transitions into its Alpha phase in early 2024, players can eagerly anticipate new game modes, gods, and aspects, paving the way for a fresh gaming experience that welcomes both veterans and newcomers.
Building on the foundation set by its 2014 predecessor, Smite, this sequel is poised to deliver an entirely revitalized gaming experience using the advanced Unreal Engine 5. In keeping with the essence of the original, Smite 2 allows players to embody various legendary deities and mythological figures from diverse pantheons, ranging from Greek to Japanese folklore. By August 2024, gamers can expect a roster of 23 gods, which is projected to expand to 50 by the end of January 2025. Recent announcements shed light on numerous exciting features that lie ahead, beyond just new characters.
The developers have confirmed that the open beta for Smite 2 will kick off on January 14, providing an excellent opportunity for players to explore the significant differences between this installment and the original title. Release day will also see the introduction of Aladdin, a magical assassin and Jungler, featuring unique abilities like wall-running and trapping enemies in his lamp. Additionally, fan-favorites such as Mulan, Geb, Ullr, and Agni will return with revamped skill sets to enhance gameplay experience.
Start Date of the Smite 2 Open Beta
- January 14, 2025
Smite 2’s open beta will introduce an innovative 3v3 game mode called Joust, set within a captivating Arthurian-themed arena. Players will navigate the landscape using teleporters, while stealth mechanics, including stealth grass, will allow for strategic surprises. Furthermore, this map will also support a competitive 1v1 Duel mode. One of the standout features set to debut is Aspects, which modifies gameplay dynamics by allowing players to exchange specific aspects of their god’s abilities for substantial boons. For instance, under the Aspects system, Athena can no longer teleport to allies for protection; she can now target enemies to weaken them. During the open beta, 20 out of Smite 2’s expected 45 dynamic gods will feature Aspects, with plans for further expansions in the future.
In addition, numerous quality-of-life improvements will enhance the player experience in Smite 2. These include role-specific guides, helpful prompts to assist newcomers, improvements to the PC text chat feature, tweaks to the item store, comprehensive death recaps, and much more. For competitive enthusiasts, the inaugural Smite 2 esports tournament final is slated for January 17-19 at the HyperX Arena in Las Vegas, showcasing the new potential of this MOBA. Smite 2 will be available across platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
