Update on Slay the Spire 2 Early Access Release

In a recent announcement shared through their September Newsletter, Mega Crit, the developer behind the acclaimed games Slay the Spire and its sequel, has revealed a postponement of the early access launch for Slay the Spire 2. Initially scheduled for late 2025, the new release window has been set for a concealed Thursday in March 2026.

Background on the Delay

Originally unveiled in April 2024, Slay the Spire 2 generated considerable buzz with its anticipated early access timeframe. However, in the latest newsletter, Mega Crit indicated that after extensive internal discussions, they concluded it would be best to delay the game.“We know this isn’t the news anyone wanted to hear, ourselves included. We are eager to get this game into your hands!”

Reasons Behind the Postponement

Despite the disappointment, the team has assured fans that the delay is not due to any singular dramatic event. As stated, “some personal life matters impacted the team (everyone’s okay!), and we kept dreaming up new features that require more development time. Ultimately, the game needs additional polish to meet our high standards.”This commitment to quality reflects Mega Crit’s dedication to delivering an exceptional gaming experience.

Community Questions Addressed

To address any concerns and speculation from the gaming community, the studio’s community manager provided a FAQ section. The most pressing inquiry related to whether Slay the Spire 2 was postponed due to concerns over competing with Hollow Knight: Silksong. Mega Crit clarified that this was not a factor in their decision-making process.

Looking Ahead

The upcoming delay allows for the integration of new features, characters, and content, along with crucial polishing. While the exact release date remains a mystery, the indication of it occurring on a Thursday in March leaves us with several possibilities—March 5, 12, 19, or 26, 2026. A definitive date will be disclosed closer to the launch.

As fans await this follow-up to the beloved original, the anticipation continues to build. Mega Crit’s transparency about their development process fosters a supportive community eager to see how the game evolves during this extended timeline.
