Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II Will Only Run At “Cinematic” 30 FPS on Xbox Series X|S

Ninja Theory confirmed today that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II will run at a maximum of 30 frames per second on both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

Speaking to German publication GamePro, Mark Slater-Tunstill, the VFX director for the game, has confirmed that on both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, the game will have a maximum frame rate of 30 frames per second and will also utilize dynamic resolution scaling. Despite this being a letdown, it seems that the 30 FPS limit is necessary in order to maintain the game’s impressive visuals. Slater-Tunstill believes that this will only add to the cinematic experience of the game, and according to GamePro, it may not have a significant impact on gameplay due to its slow and deliberate style.

During an interview with IGN, the creator of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II praised the capabilities of the Unreal Engine 5. They stated that the engine has enabled the team to incorporate new storytelling elements and enhance special effects in the game. The use of real-time lighting has also improved the overall visual cohesion of scenes compared to previous games. Additionally, the transition to Unreal Engine 5 has allowed for more realistic rendering of physical objects such as props and outfits.

The worldwide launch of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II on PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S is set for May 21st.
