The game Nightreign features a formidable array of adversaries known as the Nightlords, with Tricephalos being the initial threat you’ll encounter. This massive, three-headed canine has the chilling ability to split into smaller versions of itself and unleash fiery attacks in the arena, making it a challenging opponent. However, players may find later Nightlords to be even more daunting.

Strategies to Defeat Tricephalos in Nightreign

To effectively defeat Tricephalos during your gameplay in Nightreign, it’s crucial to be well-prepared. Keep the following strategic points in mind as you navigate through the game world and gather essential gear or items that can counter this fierce Nightlord:

  • Tricephalos has a specific weakness to Holy Damage.
  • Be aware that Tricephalos inflicts Physical and Fire Damage; therefore, acquire equipment that offers Physical Damage Negation and Fire Damage Negation.

During the confrontation, you will face several key attacks from Tricephalos:

  • Sword Swing – The creature will lift the sword strapped to its back and execute wide swings using a chain. Be alert, as it typically performs two consecutive swings. The sword’s upward motion signals this attack, so either roll away or time your dodges carefully, as you are vulnerable even when positioned behind the boss.
  • Bite Attack – If you get too close, Tricephalos may attempt to bite you. You can avoid this by dodging in any direction, but try to position yourself to attack from the side or back for safety.
  • Grab Attack – The beast can snatch you up in its maw and pin you down, allowing its other heads to attack. Look for a purple glow when it prepares for a grab; this is your cue to move away from its jaws.
  • Fire Breath – Occasionally, Tricephalos channels the attack of dragons, breathing fire in your direction. Ensure you have enough distance until this attack is complete.

Upon reaching about 75% of its health, Tricephalos will enter its second phase, transforming into three fiery projectiles and zooming around the arena before splitting into three separate dogs. Be aware that only one of these dogs will wield the sword, indicating it has additional attacks compared to its unarmed counterparts. To effectively manage your attacks, coordinate with your teammates to focus on one dog at a time.

As time progresses, Tricephalos may come back together, allowing your team to direct its efforts towards the main form. However, remain vigilant as it can separate into three dogs at any moment. Watch for the animation where it transforms into a fiery ball—a sign that it is about to split again. Ensure that your team is prepared to target each individual dog.

Pay close attention to the main dog (the one with the sword) when it roars in its unmerged state. This battle cry will cause all three dogs to aggro onto your team, glowing red in their aggression. When their eyes glow, your team has a higher chance of staggering them, which can subdue their aggressive tendencies.

It’s important to note that any stance damage inflicted on Tricephalos during its merged state will transfer to its form when separated, and vice versa.

Additional Attacks in Phase Two

During the second phase, watch out for these additional attacks from Tricephalos:

  • Explosive Plunge – Tricephalos will leap into the air and plunge its sword into the ground, triggering an explosive Area of Effect (AoE) attack. When you see it jump, quickly reposition behind it or dodge through the attacks.
  • Wave of Fire – With its blazing sword, Tricephalos can unleash a large wave of fire. The best way to avoid this attack is to dodge forward into it, minimizing the chance of being hit.
