Stellar Blade Sets New Steam CCU Record for Single Player Games, Surpassing Sony’s Previous Achievement

Stellar Blade’s Impressive PC Launch: A New Benchmark for Sony Titles
After much anticipation, the PC version of Stellar Blade has been officially released, approximately thirteen months following its initial launch on the Sony PlayStation 5. This PC adaptation, also published by Sony, presents an exciting opportunity to evaluate its player engagement metrics against other recent console-to-PC transitions from the same publisher.
Record-Breaking Player Engagement
As reported by SteamDB, Stellar Blade has outperformed all previous single-player titles from Sony on the Steam platform concerning peak concurrent users, achieving an impressive high of 183.8K players within the first day. Given that the weekend is approaching, there is potential for these numbers to rise even further as gamers have more free time to engage with the game.
Comparative Analysis: Previous Sony Titles
For context, the previous record was held by Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut, which peaked at 77.1K players earlier this year. However, it is pertinent to note that this title includes a multiplayer co-op mode, called Legends. More comparable to Stellar Blade would be God of War, which reached a peak of 73.5K players, making it the last true single-player record holder before this new launch.
Additions to the list include Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered at 66.4K, Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition at 56.5K, and its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition, which saw 40.4K players. Additionally, The Last of Us Part I reached 36.4K, edging out God of War Ragnarok at 35.6K and The Last of Us Part II Remastered at 30.6K. Other titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Days Gone recorded peaks of 28.1K and 27.4K, respectively. Notably, first installments have generally outperformed their sequels.
Future Prospects in the PC Gaming Landscape
The success of Stellar Blade is significant enough to indicate its popularity, warranting the development of a sequel. However, it’s worth mentioning that several other titles, despite lower concurrent player peaks, have received higher overall ratings. The record for concurrent users could very well be challenged soon, especially with the upcoming release of Lost Soul Aside, scheduled for August 29. This upcoming title will mark the first single-player game by Sony to launch simultaneously on PC and consoles, potentially driving increased interest, particularly if it garners favorable reviews.
As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, the performance of Stellar Blade will serve as a crucial case study in player engagement metrics for Sony’s future releases on the PC platform.
