As we progress deeper into the fall and holiday gaming season, the launch of several popular new PC games has led to an increase in the number of concurrent players on Valve’s Steam. Last week, Steam achieved a remarkable online player peak of 37,633,514. Earlier today, Valve’s own charts reported a new high of 37,789,483 concurrent players on Steam, marking an impressive increase of 155,969 users within just seven days.

The primary contributor to these increasing player numbers is the recent release of several trending PC games that have captured the attention of the gaming community on Steam. Popular titles such as Black Myth: Wukong, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, and the 1.0 release of Satisfactory have significantly boosted player counts. Additionally, earlier releases like Once Human and the uniquely engaging free-to-play game Banana, where players simply click on an image of a banana, continue to thrive, with the latter boasting over 375,000 players online, making it the third most played game on Steam.

Older titles are also experiencing a renaissance on Steam. The battle royale sensation PUBG: Battlegrounds has witnessed a resurgence, with its online player metrics improving over the past year, as reported by SteamDB. Today, it reached a peak of 687,660 players in a 24-hour period, securing its position as the second most-played online game on Steam. Meanwhile, Valve’s own Counter-Strike 2, a free-to-play shooter, consistently maintains high player engagement, hitting a 24-hour peak of 1,433,661 players, making it the most-played game on Steam today.

These player numbers are likely to continue rising with the imminent release of several highly anticipated games in the upcoming months. Notable titles include Frostbite 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Marvel Rivals, among others. Additionally, Valve’s forthcoming title Deadlock, still in its invite-only phase, already boasts over 150,000 players online, and that number could surge dramatically upon its official launch.
