Major Update for Rematch Introduces Crossplay Feature

Today marks a significant milestone for Rematch, the innovative arcade football game created by the talented developers at Sloclap, known for their work on Sifu. The game has just received its third major patch, which is pivotal as it finally integrates crossplay support across all gaming platforms.

Patch Launch and Key Features

Though Patch #3 made its initial debut on August 29 exclusively for Steam players through a beta test, it rolled out for all platforms on September 5. This update’s highlight is undoubtedly the introduction of crossplay, a feature players have eagerly anticipated since the game’s launch. Additional key gameplay adjustments include a 10% reduction in the maximum speed at which players can lock onto volley targets while utilizing the Extra Effort mechanic, alongside a decrease in the power boost associated with aerial extra volley shots. These alterations are directly linked to current gameplay dynamics, aiming to refine and balance the competitive experience.

New Controls and Bug Fixes

Furthermore, this patch has introduced a new tap direction control scheme for players using mouse and keyboard, enhancing gameplay fluidity. The update also addresses various bugs that have cropped up, providing a more stable gaming experience for users.

Looking Back at Launch Success

Initially, there was disappointment among players as they anticipated crossplay functionality at launch, only to learn just hours before that it would not be ready. Sloclap prioritized delivering a polished experience, allowing additional time for the feature’s development. Despite these setbacks, Rematch experienced an astounding launch, attracting over 1 million players within the first 24 hours and reaching 5 million players by the end of its first month, significantly aided by its availability on Xbox Game Pass. Such a user base growth is impressive, particularly for an independent studio.

Future Prospects

Now that crossplay support is live, it will be intriguing to observe how the game’s community evolves and how Sloclap adapts to enhancements in gameplay strategy. The introduction of crossplay not only unifies the player base but also heightens competition, paving the way for the game’s future expansion and development.
