Potential Cancellation of Unannounced Project by MachineGames

Rumors of Canceled Project at MachineGames Spark Concern Among Fans
Recent findings suggest that Swedish developer MachineGames may have shelved an unannounced project, raising alarms among avid gamers. This speculation emerged when Timur222 discovered a detail on the LinkedIn profile of a former Lead Artist who contributed to both Indiana Jones and the Great Circle as well as this enigmatic project, reportedly under development from February 2022 until January 2024.
Wolfenstein Fans Express Concern Over Possible Cancellations
Given MachineGames’ legacy, there is significant apprehension that the canceled undertaking could be Wolfenstein III. Following the launch of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus in 2017, the studio pivoted towards producing two spin-off titles: the co-op game Youngblood and the VR experience Cyberpilot. Unfortunately, neither of these titles received favorable reviews. Despite Bethesda’s Vice President of Marketing, Pete Hines, assuring fans that a concluding chapter for the beloved series was on the horizon, no such announcements have occurred in subsequent years.
Current Focus and Potential Futures
While MachineGames appears to have concentrated its resources on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, it is plausible that a separate team was developing Wolfenstein III, which did not reach fruition. Whether the studio will revisit this iconic franchise after completing the Indiana Jones project remains uncertain. However, it’s noteworthy that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has performed remarkably well, gaining widespread acclaim and amassing four million players by January 2025. The impact of various sales formats, including Game Pass, complicates the assessment of true sales numbers, further underscoring the game’s success.
What Lies Ahead for Wolfenstein?
In a recent interview, Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Gaming, indicated openness to the idea of a sequel. He emphasized a preference for teams under Microsoft’s umbrella to continue developing franchises they own, suggesting that while Wolfenstein may fit into this category, its future depends on the collaborative decisions of MachineGames, Bethesda, and Microsoft. Many, including myself, are hopeful that B. J.Blazkowicz’s journey will receive the conclusion it deserves.
