Overview of the Space-Time Smackdown Update

  • The newly launched Space-Time Smackdown update brings excitement with the inclusion of 140 fresh cards for the Pokémon TCG Pocket.
  • Although Genetic Apex booster packs remain accessible, their visibility issue on a secondary page has led to player confusion.
  • The overshadowing of older booster packs by newer expansions highlights the need for a more pronounced set selection system.

Pokemon TCG Pocket is kicking off the year with a bang through the release of the Space-Time Smackdown update. This latest expansion introduces two enticing packs that revolve around Generation 4 Pokémon, specifically featuring the legendary duo, Dialga and Palkia. Unlike the more compact Mythical Island, which contained fewer choices, the Space-Time Smackdown boasts an impressive collection of 140 new cards, broadening the horizon for players eager to enhance their decks. While the reception of this set has been largely positive, it raises questions about the transition within the Pokémon TCG Pocket environment.

Each set introduced in the Pokémon TCG Pocket has its unique characteristics, particularly regarding the number of booster packs available, which is influenced by the size of the expansion. For instance, the Genetic Apex expansion was substantial, offering 226 cards along with 60 secret rares, which allowed for three distinctive booster packs centered on iconic Pokémon. The latest Space-Time Smackdown serves as a balanced midpoint in this evolutionary journey. However, a perplexing aspect has emerged: the Genetic Apex booster packs are now obscured, creating an impression of their unavailability even when they are very much still part of the game.

Genetic Apex Packs: Hidden but Not Absent

The Genetic Apex set may emerge as the most cherished collection for long-term players due to the nostalgia associated with Generation 1 Pokémon. Its extensive size ensures that both newcomers and veteran players will likely want to explore booster packs in the months ahead. However, the packs’ current placement on a secondary page can mislead players into thinking they have been entirely removed from the game.

To discover the Genetic Apex packs, players must navigate to the “Select other Booster Packs”button in the bottom right corner when accessing packs from Space-Time Smackdown or Mythical Island. This change means Genetic Apex boosters are no longer visible on the main game screen; only the Mythical Island and the new packs feature prominently. This decision is perplexing, particularly when Genetic Apex boosters previously enjoyed visibility when presented alongside the Mewtwo and Mew packs on the home page.

The Oversight in the Space-Time Smackdown’s Booster Presentation

The recent expansion of Pokémon TCG Pocket creates an opportunity to showcase three prominent packs on the homepage, including Mewtwo from Genetic Apex, Mew from Mythical Island, and Dialga from the latest set. Instead, players are left with only Mythical Island and Space-Time Smackdown visible, making it easy to overlook the Genetic Apex boosters, which remain tucked away.

The absence of clear visibility for Genetic Apex packs is concerning, especially considering the Pack Points that players have amassed since its launch and their ongoing pursuit of missing regular cards or secret rares. It might give the impression that this set is unavailable when in fact it is simply obscured. The in-game news regarding the Space-Time Smackdown expansion could unintentionally mislead players into believing older cards may not be returning, leading to further confusion.

While it is logical for not all Pokémon TCG Pocket booster packs to occupy the front page, implementing a more transparent communication method could enhance player experience. Features like a banner displaying available expansions or a dedicated “set selection” screen prior to the “pack selection” would significantly improve accessibility and reduce confusion among current and prospective players.
