Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: Comprehensive Guide to the Reckoning Quest

The concluding quests in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, particularly The Reckoning, present pivotal choices that significantly influence your end-game experience. Within this mission, players encounter two critical decisions that can alter the course of the narrative.
While the main objective is essential, the optional tasks hold greater significance. Skipping these can lead to missed emotional storytelling moments, hidden achievements, and critical character developments. Below, we detail these choices and the best strategies for maximizing your experience.
Initiating The Reckoning
The Reckoning unfolds immediately after the completion of the main quest titled Hunger and Despair during the siege of Suchdol. As Henry descends the wall with Samuel, the quest commences automatically at the bottom, seamlessly integrating into the overarching storyline without the need for additional prompts or dialogue.
Essential Objectives
Your primary task during The Reckoning involves acquiring a horse, allowing Henry to swiftly seek out reinforcements. Head over to the stables located on the western side of the village. Interacting with a horse will complete this quest and usher you into the next mission, The Last Rites.
However, rushing through this step results in the unfortunate demise of Henry’s brother, along with the loss of a hidden achievement. Therefore, taking the time to explore additional options is advisable.
Locating Sam (Optional)
There are several strategies to approach the task of locating Sam. You can opt for a direct assault on the camp, engaging enemies head-on. This aggressive method triggers alarms and invites overwhelming resistance, making it a thrilling yet perilous choice for players seeking loot and combat challenges.
A more strategic option is to employ stealth tactics, moving covertly through the camp dressed in dark clothing. The game encourages this approach, and players should save progress frequently to mitigate the risks of being spotted.
By dispatching or neutralizing isolated guards and concealing their bodies, you can ease the mission’s difficulty if alarms are raised.
The optimal approach involves incapacitating a Prague soldier and donning their uniform. In disguise, Henry can traverse the camp with relative safety, significantly streamlining the search for Sam. For players pursuing a non-violent route or lacking the necessary tools, uniforms can also be discovered in chests within the camp.
Sam is imprisoned in a barn located at the southern edge of Suchdol, directly across from the village tavern. Look for a ladder positioned against the wall; ascend it to navigate the attic and confront Vauquelin Brabant, who betrayed Henry earlier in the narrative. A duel ensues, where strikes to his exposed head can hasten what is otherwise a challenging fight.
After vanquishing Brabant, a dialogue scene unfolds in which he pleads for his life. Deciding to spare him will prompt him to raise the alarm, complicating matters based on the remaining soldiers in Suchdol.
This interaction represents a hidden narrative point that influences Henry’s eventual fate.Eliminating Brabant may simplify the mission but could lead to a less favorable conclusion for Henry.
Before his demise, Brabant reveals details about Von Aulitz, implying that he is dying from an infected wound in town. Players can immediately opt to carry Sam away to safety, but doing so may preclude Henry from confronting the man responsible for his parents’ deaths.
Confronting Von Aulitz (Optional)
Should you choose to leave Sam momentarily—trusting he will remain safe—proceed toward the center of the town where the largest building resides. You can either circumvent the guards near the fire pit or find a broader path to reach the entrance. Note that the door is locked very hard, but seizing a key from nearby guards or picking the lock allows entry, unlocking the Face to Face achievement.
Inside, Von Aulitz is indeed suffering due to his infected wounds. If Henry’s scholarship skill has reached 18 or higher, further dialogue options may become available, allowing players to determine his fate. Choosing to let him live can enhance your overall game ending, but this choice isn’t obligatory.
Concluding The Reckoning
After addressing the optional objectives, the final task in The Reckoning is to securely escort Samuel. If you’re still wearing the Prague soldier’s attire, you can carry him to the stables without raising any suspicion, claiming you have orders regarding his burial.
If you’re not in disguise, you’ll need to either sneak past or combat the remaining foes. Once mounted on a horse, you’ll trigger the concluding cutscene, thereby completing the quest.
