Overview of Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced Feedback

  • The absence of the in-game text chat feature on PC has left many players dissatisfied, especially those transitioning from the previous version.
  • Performance issues combined with the lack of text chat have contributed to a “Mixed”rating on Steam for GTA 5 Enhanced.
  • The original PC version of GTA 5 included a text chat function, raising concerns about its removal.

Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced has stirred disappointment among its PC player base due to the missing in-game text chat feature. This feature, present in the original PC version, is notably absent in the enhanced release that aims to provide an updated experience akin to that of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Launched on March 4, the Enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto 5 introduced several optimizations aimed at aligning its performance with the latest consoles. Players have welcomed upgrades like improved graphics, enhanced audio, and exciting new functionalities including support for Nvidia DLSS on GeForce RTX graphics cards, along with advanced ray tracing options. Importantly, players can transfer their story mode and GTA Online progress from the earlier version, which is now labeled as GTA 5 Legacy in Steam libraries. While many of these upgrades respond to player demands, the exclusion of text chat has triggered considerable backlash.

Player Dissatisfaction Over In-Game Text Chat Omission

Upon discovering that the in-game text chat feature is not available in GTA Online for PC, players took to Steam to express their dissatisfaction. Many believe that GTA 5 Enhanced does not meet their expectations for the definitive version of the game. Complaints extend beyond the chat feature, encompassing performance issues and difficulties encountered during the data migration process from the legacy version. While some assumed that the absence of text chat was an oversight, Rockstar Games clarified, through a player’s support ticket posted on GTA Forums, that the feature would not be available at launch. Instead, Rockstar has suggested players utilize Steam’s chat capabilities or the SMS function in-game for communication.

  • Over 1, 600 negative reviews have been logged on Steam, primarily attributing their dissatisfaction to the lack of text chat.
  • Players continue to report technical difficulties and issues with data migration from the legacy edition.

Following its launch, GTA 5 Enhanced accrued more than 1, 600 negative reviews on Steam, largely as a result of the missing text chat and its associated technical problems. This chorus of criticism has led to a “Mixed”rating on the platform, echoing similar challenges faced by titles like Monster Hunter Wilds during their launches.

As for the future of the text chat feature, there is no current indication from Rockstar Games regarding its reinstatement. They do offer a feedback platform on the official GTA Online website, where players can voice their opinions and suggestions for future enhancements. Despite the contentious issue of missing features, a near 50% positive review rate on Steam suggests that a segment of players are still enjoying their experiences with GTA 5 Enhanced. As anticipation builds for the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in fall 2025, now might be an opportune time for players to immerse themselves back into the world of GTA 5.
