Team Cherry Unveils Launch Pricing and Release Time for Hollow Knight: Silksong

Independent developer Team Cherry, situated in Adelaide, has officially announced the launch pricing for their highly anticipated title, Hollow Knight: Silksong. The game will be available for $19.99, €19.99, or ¥2300. Fans will be able to dive into the adventure starting Thursday, August 4, at varying times depending on their location: 7 AM Pacific Time, 10 AM Eastern Time, 4 PM Central European Time, and 11 PM Japan Time.

An Anticipated Sequel After Years of Waiting

For enthusiasts of the original Hollow Knight, the announcement of Silksong may feel surreal. Eight and a half years have passed since the first game garnered critical acclaim, selling over 15 million copies worldwide. Two years post-release, Silksong was revealed and showcased at E3 2019. However, updates on its development were sparse as Team Cherry opted to concentrate on development rather than frequent communication.

A Transformed Experience

Initially intended as downloadable content for the original game, Hollow Knight: Silksong has evolved greatly beyond that vision. It now features an expansive array of new enemies, bosses, and gameplay elements such as ‘benches.’ Notably, the sequel includes a comprehensive quest system and a journal designed to help players track their progress.

A Captivating Narrative

The story follows Hornet, the former princess of Hallownest, who finds herself captured and taken to the eerie Kingdom of Pharloom—characterized as a realm “haunted by silk and song.”Her journey unfolds as she embarks on a perilous pilgrimage towards the peak, where she uncovers ancient secrets interwoven with her identity and history.

Impact on Indie Game Releases

As the release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong approaches, several indie games—including CloverPit, Aeterna Lucis, Baby Steps, Demonschool, Faeland, Little Witch in the Woods, and the demo of Stomp and the Sword of Miracles—have chosen to postpone their launches. Their decision stems from concerns that their titles could be overshadowed by the extensive anticipation surrounding this sequel.

Platform Availability

A reminder for gamers: Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available on multiple platforms, including PC (Windows, macOS, Linux), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
