Hollow Knight: Silksong Lace Boss Strategy – Navigating the Deep Docks Encounter

As you progress in Hollow Knight: Silksong and find the bell beast fast travel station in the Deep Docks, you’ll encounter a large forge that facilitates several important upgrades. Nearby, you’ll also discover the boss room where you will face Lace, a compact yet formidable warrior eager to challenge Hornet upon her arrival. Before venturing into this encounter, make sure to visit the forge bench located in the vicinity.

It’s advisable to tackle this boss fight only after acquiring the dash ability from the Weaver mask located near the upper section of the Deep Docks; this will significantly enhance your combat strategy.

This guide will detail the essential items you need and an effective strategy for defeating Lace. Although you can opt to postpone this battle, I’ll assume that you’re diving in headfirst to engage her right away. For a more in-depth look at combat mechanics, you can read this article.

The Forge

At the Forge, the Forge Daughter provides you with two essential options, both of which require the Pale Ore equivalent specific to this game. You might find yourself with only one Ore, but if you’re determined to obtain both items, you can return to Bone Bottom to purchase an additional Craftmeal.

However, your most effective choice here is undoubtedly the Sting Shard. If you recall, this item was crucial during Hornet’s fight in Hollow Knight. The Sting Shard allows you to control the arena effectively, making it especially useful against Lace, known for her erratic movements across the battlefield.

The alternative choices, though interesting, are less practical for this fight. The Magma Bell grants you one mask of damage protection against lava and fire, but there are only a couple of small magma pools in the arena, which are relatively easy to navigate around.

While the Crafting Kit and Shard Bundle can be beneficial, they don’t significantly impact your battle strategy against Lace and should not take priority. Equip your Sting Shards or opt for your Straight Pin, and let’s prepare for the encounter.

The Lace Fight

Lace stands out as a highly agile opponent. She frequently attempts to parry your strikes, jumps throughout the arena, and relentlessly chases you. It’s crucial to maintain awareness of her positioning at all times, ensuring you create sufficient distance when necessary.

To inflict damage while minimizing risk, deploy your Sting Shards and let her collide with them. If you’re employing the Straight Pins, station yourself on the opposite end of the arena and continue launching them at her.

Prioritize conserving silk; using a Silkspear in this fight isn’t recommended, as things can escalate quickly if you’re not careful, resulting in frequent double hits. Saving silk for potential healing is a wiser strategy.

Observe Lace’s attacks patiently, particularly when she goes on the defensive; then strike at the opportune moment. When you notice her sword being pulled back, it’s an indicator that she will lunge at you shortly.

Do not engage when she leaps into the air; that’s typically her slowest attack, giving you ample time to heal. Instead, time your strikes in the gaps after her standard maneuver series to land a hit or two.

After approximately twelve hits, Lace will stagger—this is an ideal moment to maximize your damage output for a brief period. However, if you’re down to one or two masks, prioritize healing first.

When you see a circle with a star at its center, dodge away immediately. This particular attack has the potential to strip several masks at once, and failing to evade could lead to you being caught in a deadly combo chain. Don’t be misled by the lengthy startup time.

Once you’ve whittled down her health, continue to rely on your safe projectiles, utilize your dash effectively, and strike right after her attack animation concludes, resulting in a successful victory over this challenging foe.
