Hollow Knight: Silksong Guide to the Volatile Flintbeetles Quest

In the expansive world of Hollow Knight: Silksong, the Volatile Flintbeetles quest stands out as a thrilling side adventure. This quest challenges players to locate specific items and return them to the Wish board for rewards, much like other quests in the game.
What sets the Volatile Flintbeetles quest apart from similar early-game missions is the introduction of formidable and unique enemies. Players may require multiple attempts to conquer these foes, depending on their skills, adding an intriguing layer of challenge. Additionally, discovering the Flintbeetles can prove to be quite a challenge due to their elusive nature.
This guide will provide an overview of Flintbeetle locations, effective strategies for defeating them, and the rewards you can earn by completing this quest.
Initiating the Volatile Flintbeetles Quest
To commence the Volatile Flintbeetles quest, players must first defeat the Fourth Chorus located in the Far Fields. Upon vanquishing this boss, the Volatile Flintbeetles Wish will become accessible at the Wish board situated in Bone Bottom.
The quickest route to Bone Bottom is by utilizing the game’s fast-travel feature, which unlocks right after defeating the Bell Beast. Fortunately, the fast-travel point to Bone Bottom is automatically available and does not require any Rosaries to access.
Locations of All Flintbeetles
Within the quest, players must locate a total of three Flintbeetles, all of which are found in the Marrow area.
Once the quest is accepted at the Wish board, the Flintbeetles will appear in predetermined locations as depicted in the referenced image. One resides on the western portion of the map, another in the northern section, and the last on the far eastern side of the Marrow.
If you prefer a more hands-on approach to tracking down the Flintbeetles, here’s a useful hint: they leave behind golden dung scattered throughout the Marrow. Interacting with this dung creates a trail that will lead you to their hiding places.
You can identify a Flintbeetle by the sight of a large, golden shell protruding from a wall. To engage the Flintbeetle, simply strike the shell. A battle will ensue once you make contact!
Strategies for Defeating Flintbeetles
While the Flintbeetles are not classified as traditional bosses within Hollow Knight: Silksong, they certainly possess challenging characteristics typical of boss encounters. Faced with the necessity of defeating three of these formidable foes raises the stakes considerably.
To effectively combat the Flintbeetles, leverage your Drifter’s Cloak ability to glide above ground level, thus avoiding their area-of-effect attacks. Notably, when a Flintbeetle rolls, it creates a trail that explodes, making it essential to hover above this hazardous path.
Additionally, watch for the Flintbeetles’ fireball attack. During this phase, they frequently remain stationary while launching a barrage of fireballs in multiple directions. This presents an optimal opportunity to approach, evade the fireballs, and inflict maximum damage during their vulnerable moments.
Rewards for Completing the Volatile Flintbeetles Quest
Upon successfully locating and defeating all three Flintbeetles, return to the Wish board in Bone Bottom to complete the Volatile Flintbeetles quest. As a reward, you will receive a Memory Locket, an item that enhances your ability to equip multiple tools simultaneously.
To utilize the Memory Locket, visit any save bench, access your loadout menu, select a locked Crest slot, and hold down the necessary button to unlock it.
